[QUOTE=jtbost;3271512]Dumbest thing I’ve read here to date... explain why Scott Gotlib is dumb he was the FDA chief for 2 years and has generally been a reasonable voice throughout the pandemic.. if you have a valid reason I'd love to hear it. If you don't like him because he isn't telling you the narrative you want to hear then I get that as well..

Red has a point though. What motivation do people have to get the vaccine if they aren't going to be allowed to return to normal life?

My motivation was staying alive and keeping as many family members, friends, and other Americans that way. Pretty easy stuff.

Sorry but you spread it just like the unvaccinated, according to the CDC. Your altruistic goal of protecting others was for naught. No return to normal for you.

I'm aware...Everybody has to roll with this as new data comes out, right? I'd like to see how things would be at a 95% vacinated rate. I'm truly sorry that you feel that protecting others is an unworthy goal.

If the vaccinated spread it like the unvaccinated, then why would the vaccination rate matter?

Default Anti vaxxers didn’t cause the delta variant.

Antivaxxers didn’t cause the delta variant.

Just thought we’d get that straight, since some people seem to be almost accusatory. The delta variant came from India, where right now only 4% of the people are vaccinated.

https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsan...are-vaccinated

That’s not saying that people shouldn’t get vaccinated - I personally think they should if they haven’t already had COVID and maybe even if they have. For that matter, I think Jehovah’s witnesses with a major trauma with bleeding ought to take blood products if medically indicated too - but that’s just my opinion. If they’d rather die in hemorrhagic shock ‘in grace’ instead - at least the adults anyway - that’s their choice. But blaming the unvaccinated for the delta variant was ALWAYS ill-informed, and now when it has beCome apparent that even the immunized are capable of catching and spreading COVID, it’s particularly dumb. Forcing them to get vaccinated - the adults at least - no longer seems justified if you are trying to use their infectiousness as a rationale because immunized also appear to be infectious.

COVID-19 is going to be with us permanently. Even if the US could achieve a 100% immunization rate - which it never has for anything - it still wouldn’t matter because we would still be continuously importing cases from the rest of the world and those cases would be spread - apparently by the immunized as well as the unimmunized.

on the good news front, once someone has developed some degree of immunity to COVID, either from previous immunization or previous infection - the morbidity and mortality of subsequent infections goes way down, but it’s apparent that the virus is still going to virus, at least with current generations of immunization. They apparently aren’t the panacea everyone was hoping for.

But if you just got the J&J immunization, I’d suggest you go back and get one of the others.

You don’t ask for much, do you? Tell me one time in history the US has had a 95% immunization rate for ANY disease?

Immunization

Data are for the U.S.
Percent of children vaccinated by age 24 months:
  • Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis (4+ doses DTP, DT, or DTaP): 80.7%
  • Polio (3+ doses): 92.6%
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) (1+ doses): 90.8%
  • Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) (primary series + booster dose): 79.6%
  • Hepatitis B (Hep B) (3+ doses): 90.6%
  • Chickenpox (Varicella) (1+ doses): 90.2%
  • Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) (4+ doses): 81.0%
  • Combined 7-vaccine series: 68.3%

If have you get a breakthrough case first. That’s still at 80+% depending on the vaccine and who you trust with numbers.
