7 day average also reached it's highest point on Monday hitting an average of 740,594 cases per day.

Population adjusted rate has the highest in Washington, D.C., followed by NJ, NY, and OH.

Southern states have seen the largest shift in hospitalizations over the past 2 weeks with the 7 day average up 341% in Louisiana while Florida is up 277%.

It should naturally trend to less severe and more contagious over time, although there's no absolute guarantee in the short run. That's how viruses thrive (as measured by reproducing to a lot of hosts). Omicron is stereotypical in that regard.

Delta may have been slightly more severe than covid 1.0, and was more socially problematic because the severe cases did not stick to quite as predictable a demographic as covid 1.0.

Absolutely 0 reason to care about cases. The only metric that matters is who is in the hospital.
