Voluntary sick verification

Had to go out sick mid trip a while back and was sick to the point where I ended up at the doctor. While I was there I had him fill out a sick leave verification form. I sent it to pilot leaves and they responded by saying effective Dec 1, 2016 they no longer accept voluntary verification. So we can only be forced to verify per the CPO/PWA? I suppose that's the contract, but if I can voluntarily verify and keep myself below the 100 hours as the rolling 12 month period rolls on, I don't see the harm in that.

I'm sure there's a good reason behind this, what is it?

Voluntary sick verification is now gone with the new contract. No verification at all until you hit 100 hours in a rolling 12 months.

Crazy isn't it! If only there had been some communication and discussion about this new sick policy before the vote!!
😳😳😳

Either way either didn't read it or didn't understand it. (Or possibly just not on property.)

My understanding is the company believed pilots were submitting voluntary verification at points during the year that were convenient for them, resulting in higher-than-average sick usage by those pilots.

What's the harm is waiting if/when you hit the 100 hour mark?

Water under the bridge at this point, but the harm could easily be dependent on the exact nature of the sick call at the post 100 hour mark. Full blown pneumonia/ebola with a fever of 106? Easy peasy to get "verified" by anyone authorized to do so. Calling out for a moderate stomachache/headache or other issues that may or may not be verifiable to a third party? At that point you have a choice: roll the dice and hope it works out, despite a potential "ops check normal could not duplicate" letter, or just tough it out and press on and fly anyway.

The verification doesn't require a pilot to be sick at the time, have symptoms, or a diagnosis.

Harm?
