Ignorant question probably, but how does Alaska do it? And if they can make it why can't we?

Dunno - they use a -900ER with one more seat (181 vs 180). Maybe they can't do it all the time? Maybe no entertainment system or it weights less?

But I'm not the one dithering about what to make while losing sales to Airbus for their A321...

Because LUV only wanted the 737 and BA went all in since they were the only healthy growing airline at the time.

The demise of the 757 is stupider than New Coke.

Hey Trump re-upped the ExIm bank so all pressure is off. They can now sell American made airplanes, guaranteed with American taxpayer money to everybody but American companies.

AK also has -800 ETOPS airframes. the -800 has better endurance. you can tell them on the tracks....when they are checking positions at FL380.

I don't know how AK bought their -900s, but removeable optional aux fuel tanks stacked in the bag bins can greatly extend range. You can get 1,2 or 3 stacked tanks. They are removeable, but not on a flight-to-flight basis....takes too long. Drawback is that they take up baggage cubic feet.

The demise came because no one would buy them. They were very expensive to purchase, operate and required widebody ramp service equipment.
