Depends on where it's based and how they say they are gonna use it.

Right now first base is most liklely gonna be lax from what I've gathered. If it is LA I would guess that the most junior captain would probably go about 1000 numbers senior to the most junior lax 717 captain. But who knows. New categories are hard to predict.

Nope, and no way to tell until it happens. I remember many guys trying to predict the right seat of the 350, many were saying around 5000 - not even close.

Yeah but just because a plane can do something doesn't mean it will do it. The whole "long and thin" white paper nonsense was predicting the 787 would not only take over the world, but totally and completely revolutionize the entire route map. Gone is the hub and spoke, for now everyone will be flying Boise to Kuala Lumpur direct, etc.

In the real world though, its mostly used like any other plane on mostly garden variety routes. While the flexibility to cherry pick the occasional oddball route may be nice, its mostly a plug and play airplane into the same matrix as all the rest, and that will absolutely be the destiny of the C Series as well.

Airlines in general are pretty short on visionary honchos.

Perhaps.... That said, why all the mystery so far regarding basing, etc.?

Personally, I think you are right that Delta will test it on regular, short-to-medium haul flights because Delta doesn't like to push the envelope too much. Hopefully over time Delta will start to place the CS100s more strategically on longer routes that 737-800s can't support. I agree that you likely won't see anything earth shattering for a while until the performance/efficiency is demonstrated and until there are enough airframes (20-30) on the property to allow some route experimentation. Hey, the airplane will still operate 20-25% cheaper on a CASM basis on the short and medium routes too......... You'll save SEA-SJU for later.

While I am sure we will see endless LGA-DFW-SEA-IAH-LGA-MCI-SEA flying with the C series I think the really interesting flights will be on the weekends when Planning is trying to increase utilization and work the leisure markets. Flights like CVG-STT or LGA-AUA or LGA-EGE-LGA become possible. Based on its takeoff and steep descent performance it might be a good plane to fly into places like Aspen and Hailey, ID where there are lots of high dollar people.
After experiencing all the weight restrictions coming out of SLC and this summer, I would not be surprised to see it used there a lot. I was Jumpseating on an A321 from SLC to ATL and it could not make a single climb restriction! To it's credit the 321 was completely full including jumpseats (but lots of kids and they left a few bags behind).

and to David Puddy's credit, it is a lot of fun to think about the possibilities of the aircraft.

Is LGA getting customs finally? Also, I don't know if this route would happen with a 737 operating JFK-AUA many days of the year already. Perhaps some of the other hubs though...

AUA has preclearance.
New Yorkers will trip over themselves not to fly out of JFK when they can go to LGA. Plus the LGA perimeter Rule is only not in effect on Saturdays so all other days of the week it would be JFK.
