I remember what an old Captain once told me, bid based on hearsay, big wishes, unicorn farts and not yet finalized network plans.

I think he was teasing me.

What are some high value 76 seater routes that don't already have the 717 on them? ATL-HPN? LGA-Florida? DTW-JFK? ATL-Mexico?
The shuttle out of NYC to include the ORD operation. The NYC to CLT flights because of the banking industry.
Keep in mind that basing a aircraft and basing pilots are two different animals. The first flights for the aircraft may well be out of NYC but if within a year they plan more flights out west LAX could be the first pilot base.

I'm waiting for BobZ or Mr. Goodman to chime in and tell you that they weren't teasing...

Maybe, and I'd really buy it was Lax first if they had really setup the west coast training that was once rumored. It could be nyc based with west coast flying too.

My bet it starts out with lga-rdu. That's my wild guess.

Of course, because he knew you "forgot to bid".

Sure, it could easily do JFK-TUS, or JFK-JAC...might even make it back too. There are a lot of possibilities, but the way our Air Line is set up, it'll be a hub feeder just like any other. We just got a great deal on a really good jet. I hope we get a ton of them to replace the struggling regional lift, and open new markets. I just want to know who gets the first crack at it...

DFW base flying turns to LAX, LGA, and everywhere else that DFW flies regional jets. You heard it here first.

It could be true, but it probably won't be.

DFW is special though. Even though we don't make plane or base or marketing decisions, if you want a DFW base that the company wants, you must give something up for it. Or something.

Sorry trying to grasp your logic..
So it could feed the hub form far and away places too, right?
717 is having 3+ hour legs now even though it started with short hops.

Uh, there are some long legs (and always have been as the first 717 flights were ATL-EWR over and over) but they are still outnumbered by the ATL-BHM/TLH/AVL/SAV/MOB/HSV/VPS etc out there.
