Flying above max pick-up
#11
I understand spreading the hours around so we require more pilots on the seniority list, but if someone wants to do max pickup I don't see how it negatively affects the rest of the pilot group. (Besides guys who do last minute WS and take GS from junior pilots, that should stop)
A piece of advice.......NEVER criticize a fellow pilot for exercising their contractual rights. You have no idea why they are doing so. (Questioning why is different) I will add one caveat, corollary etc. Criticize away on anyone greenslipping with pilots on furlough.

Of course, the common retort to your corollary was that "the trip was going to be flown anyway so why should I give up a GS to let a junior pilot fly it as an IA?"
"Ummmmm.....because that junior pilot is likely next to be furloughed and might need the $$?"
Same pilot who said - "You don't expect me to take a paycut to stop furloughs do you?"
"Of course not...then you would be paying 2% to a union rather than a dues paying association."

However, pay cuts--also known as concessions--to prevent a furlough is a tougher nut to crack. On the one hand I think we would all support that...IF we could be truly convinced that that paycut would be the difference during truly dire straits for the company.
The problem with that is that furloughees are then held as "hostages" by the company to force us into concessions, when the furloughees would have been furloughed anyway, and recalled anyway, pay cuts or not.
That one is trickier, and I am glad that right now this is just a hypothetical discussion!

The answer to that is “They can only inverse assign that junior pilot if...........s/he answers their phone on a day off.” So guess what, don’t answer the phone! In this day and age, if one doesn’t know where the call is coming from, don't answer it! The junior person could be saving their own job by not answering the phone...

Hopefully we won't have to worry about Green-slipping with guys on furlough again, but I think its a douche move. Guys can try to justify it in their own minds but Karma will catch up with them sooner or later.

Ok, this post wins the “I don’t have the big picture” award of the month.
Do you really think that allowing us money-grubbing, greedy pilots the unrestricted ability to WS without limits would not affect long term manning requirements?
And. “...last minute WS...take GS from junior pilots...” . . . REALLY?

The old, "How dare someone WS, they took a GS I was obviously entitled to."
Do some research on game theory. We're all in it for ourselves. Why should I take dessert off my table so you have the possibility of getting two?

...the former NYC Chief Pilot was known for his personally-served jetway assignments. Oddly, as he started doing that, more cleaners were injured by rapidly deplaning FOs heading down the M88 aft airstairs than at any other time in the company's history. 😁

I've thought for a long time the max pickup limit should be the same for everyone whatever fashion they choose to use to pickup. I don't see how that is a remotely "unfair" idea and the trip parking thing would have never occurred. I've asked alpa a bunch of times and they can't explain why it makes logical sense to have WS ALV +15 limits and FAR limits other times. Except that it fixes all sorts of company manning issues and cuts down greenslips; that BTW isn't our job. I for one feel I already gave at the office. OFG
