Finally noticed a made in a foreign country tag. I called them and asked and they actually claimed that their USA factory was slipping in quality, so they went to an out of country vendor to increase quality. Bwahahahahaha!

So I then asked "so is the current Navy Officer jacket now also made in the same foreign country?" Um, well, no, its still made in the USA. "Oh, so it is also the same clearly lower quality as the one I currently have, or worse, because USA can't make them right anymore?" Crickets.

Not sure about quality or where its made today and don't care, won't buy another one.

The Navy stuff is mandated to be made in the USA. They have no choice if they still have any official affiliation with the military. The Air Force A-2 jackets for a while were made with really terrible goatskin because it had to come from the US and apparently US goatskin is no bueno.

You're missing the point almost entirely. I'm not saying all things made in USA are always the best and nothing made elsewhere can measure up (nor am I saying that "mil-spec" always means superior, that's not the point). But they did do a factory switch several years ago (no idea what they are doing now) and the quality tanked. Prior to that they had been making the DL and USN jackets on the same line in the USA. After the new offshore factory started pumping out inferior products, it stands to reason that the same production line in the USA was still producing the same quality they were all along.

There is no way a Navy Admiral (or even a community college butter bar) would have been issued or purchased that sudden drop in quality, including appearance.

They cheaped out for us, bottom line. Maybe they fixed it maybe they didn't. I don't care at this point I'll never use them again.

I still go to them for shirts, though I may give a cut above a try next time I’m due (coming soon).

I typically get Kohl’s pants, just make sure they match the jacket.
Ditto the 07 jacket, although my bidding preferences limit the number of times I actually wear it.

I made the switch to A Cut Above on my last shirt purchase. They have a couple different fabric styles and cuts. I was pleased with both styles I tried and will buy again in a couple months.

For the name tags, the "new" style (thick clear epoxy over the name) is ordered from Tharpe Robbins as mentioned in the thread. If you want the "old" style with just plain brass, however, order via this link:

It's a little over $10 per tag. I ordered them through Abbott's recently, but Abbott's just charged a MUCH higher price and placed the order through nametagcountry. Save the time and money and order it direct.
I ordered name tags from this link and they’re significantly larger than the ones I ordered thru the company store during indoc. My fault since I didn’t read the details, so if youo order form this site, hunt around for the correct size. I like the quality and the fact they don’t have the plastic overlay which makes it hard to read (maybe that’s a good thing?) and cracked on mine, so I’ll try again.

Not a bash on stickmonkey, just check the details.

Your link looks like it’ll let you pick the correct size.

Hrkdrivr, darn...yeah, I see that. Not sure how that link got jacked—either way, sorry about leading you or anyone else down the wrong road. Thanks for posting the correction.
