5. As long as the balance sheet is what it is I’d fly a C-172 for what I now make. I don’t really understand all the angst about all these comparisons of WB vs NB. PanAm was all WB w no domestic feed and that didn’t work out too well.

If a guy has a choice of the big three it would make sense for him to figure out which airline would give him the most money making potential over a career. Which usually means getting to a widebody sooner.

On the last bid the 765 went to a 131** number which is a Feb 2017 hire. I still maintain that a financially healthy airline is much more important over the course of ones career than what equipment and pay rate they are on. But then again I fly the 717, what do I know?

SWA has only 737s as you know and a pilot hired there in 1987
Made a lot more cash than a UAL or AA or Delta pilot

So to answer your question
The future is unknown

Tell you what, why don’t you go to the home page of this website, look up legacy carriers, count up the number of narrowbody and widebody aircraft for each of the carriers you want, and then multiply what ever factor you want for pilots.

As for 10 years ago and 10 years from now...I have no clue.

Lots of rationalizing going on here… DAL has virtually no widebodies compared to the other legacy carriers but nobody wants to admit it

What’s the definition of a widebody?

If you ignore 767s, you’re right. If you count them, it’s closer than most people realize
