Thanks. I just gotten very ticked off at the whole thing. I’m gonna get my money, it just shouldn’t be this hard. There is no phone number to call on the denial they sent me. Only an address to file an appeal. I’ve never had a problem with the LPFSA either.....until now. I sent in a letter for the appeal just to have it on file in case this goes into next year.
I’ll have to search the myuhc website for a number.

I’ve had a few times over the years where my claim for the LPFSA was denied for no apparent reason, including 2 from last month. I have always just resubmitted the exact same info again as a new claim via the online submission form and they’ve gotten paid. Hopefully it works again this time. I noticed an oddity this time with the claimed amounts that were denied were different than the amounts I had submitted for. I have no idea where they came up with the claim amounts as the numbers don’t match anything on any of the documents I uploaded. They basically fabricated them out of thin air as far as I can tell.
UHC is not very impressive, that’s for sure.

FWIW, at UAL, we get a debit card for all FSA transactions and it works great. Every once in a while I get an email asking for a receipt for something (often dental work). I log on to my benifits site with my iPhone and there is a link to take a pic and submit instantly. I say this not to brag but rather to provide info as it wasn’t always this easy at UA. We complained enough that this is the new way of doing business.

Otherwise, I think there is only one sure, safe, course of action with UHC

Huh? My HSA card seems to be usable anywhere MasterCard is accepted. Just purchased some medical equipment at an online retailer well outside of the scope of insurance benefits. I honestly think you could buy anything with this card, but I’m quite careful to make sure it’s only used at entities that appear to have a standing in the world of medicine. I’m prepared to explain anything to the IRS, but clearly I have never seen any point of sale limitations.

An HSA is basically only between you and the IRS, while a FSA adds the third party administrator to manage the funds. With my HSA I can transfer money directly to my bank account for any amount without needing to submit any receipt to Optum. The catch is if I'm ever audited by the IRS I need to be able to prove those payments were for reimbursing eligible expenses. With a FSA you don't have that freedom and must go through the administrator to get reimbursed for any expenses.
