UHC Rant

When I've had problems with UHC I have dealt with the ALPA benefits specialist rather than UHC. I've gotten quicker results - they have contacts that can get things done. It used to be Karen B-F, but she wasn't there last time I needed and there is a replacement.

Rooster, you should reapproach. I use tricare and the medical FSA for the last couple of years and submit all my "expenses" on the online form and lately all I submit is just the Tricare EOB and they reimburse my "patient responsibilty" portion on the EOB without any other bills, etc.

I tried to establish an online account. There are specific directions on the website for people only with an FSA. Followed those directions and still got an error message that my info doesn’t match any of their records. Spent an hour on the phone with tech support and they were unable to resolve. I threw in the towel and will continue to use the fax method. Maybe I’ll try the ALPA rep as someone suggested.

Ok, this is a first for me. OMG! I'm trying get a reimbursement from my Limited Purpose FSA for two separate crowns my wife got this year. I mailed in the first claim with copies of both EOB's. I get the response that my claim was denied: "The information you sent is unreadable, illegible or a corrupt file. Please resubmit." So the next time I submit my claim electronically with photo's of the EOB's. I just got the same denial reason! Are you kidding me! They can't read a copy of EOB made with a copy machine or they can't look a picture of the same thing? Crowns aren't cheap and I don't want to forfeit money over the $500 carryover allowed.
This is total BS! This is MY money, NOT UHC's! My appeal letter is going out tomorrow. I'd call but of course they don't provide a phone number......the rat bastids!
I've never had a claim for reimbursement from my LPFSA denied before. Un ******* believable!
Anybody else have/had this problem?

Well, I just got off the phone with a UHC claims rep. She looked up the claim and was just as stunned as I was with the "illegible" reason for why the claim was denied. She looked at it an cannot figure out why it was denied. All the information is clearly there and, get this, LEGIBLE! She couldn't do anything right then but is resubmitting it and going to make sure an actual person looks at it... She is also putting a note on it that I want a call when it gets looked at/processed again.
Plus I got the REAL address to send an appeals to now. I should charge them for the price of 2 stamps...

That's part of how its designed. Deny Deny Deny. Best case you don't have to pay what you need to and worst case you only have to pay what you were required to in the first place and not a penny more.

To bring this thread to a close, I just got a call from UHC and my claim is being paid out. It took a the call to customer service to get an actual person to look at it for this to take place.

Hurrah! Sometimes it takes perseverance and not taking ‘no’ for an answer. Congrats.

UHC is run by a bunch of crooks. Everything I've ever learned about the "post-dating stock options scam" I've learned from UHC. The SEC nailed them a decade ago (When Richard Anderson was there btw). Most of their top execs got fined by the SEC. NOT the CFO though...he claimed ignorance of the scam...the result? The SEC forced the UHC CEO to resign and that CFO became the CEO of UHC! Oh and guess where the current CEO had his first CFO job? Enron! Look it up.
UHC and Delta screwed the Atlanta area employees during the summer of 2016. UHC and the Piedmont hospital system couldn't come to an agreement to renew their contract with each other. So those Delta employees were left out there with NO information and NO UHC payment to Piedmont. Didn't affect you if you weren't undergoing any procedures or treatments but if you were you were SOL.
Home Depot, Coca-Cola, the Fayette County School system, UPS and other companies all used UHC in 2016. They told their employees they would pay for any treatments or procedures during the gap between June 1 and the final agreement. DELTA, who self-funds it's employees health insurance said, "this is a problem between UHC and Piedmont hospital system, we have nothing to do with it, no influence". Or put another way, go pound sand.
As a matter of fact, Delta wasn't going to mention anything to the employees until June 1st. The end date of the previous agreement. They finally made an announcement to the employees the last week of May. Warning that the UHC and Piedmont Hospital system had failed to come to an agreement for the next year. It took a number of employees questioning and complaining about the lack of information to finally push the company to at least let everyone know there might be a problem with benefits. Now why do you suppose they wouldn't want to tell the ATL employees they were losing their benefits on June 1st? That's right, they didn't want everyone preemptively scheduling their procedures or treatments prior to June 1st, driving up costs to Delta.
The whole thing was handled poorly by Delta. Also the specialist over at DALPA sent out "canned" letters to employees instead of answering emails directly. No help and no information. Pretty sad really.
