Previous employer FSA worked this way until the rules changed with the ACA. Prior to ACA, most drugstores, pharmacies and even many of the grocery stores cash register systems had FSA coding that would allow you to just swipe the FSA card and it payed for only the qualified items (CVS had an 'F' in the margin of their receipts). After the rules changed as to what qualified for FSA, the coding got so screwed up that it no longer auto-separated and you had to specify what got paid by the card or make a separate transaction to make it work.

This would be comical if it wasn't so pathetic.

After all the above, I send in a letter of appeal to dispute the denial........Today I get the letter returned because the Post Office cannot deliver to the PO Box number for the Appeals.........The PO Box number that's listed on the denial letter!!! Holy Crap! What do I have to do!!!

That's some graduate level, office type "screw job" thinking.

Just printed a label for the shredder that says - suggestion box.

Don’t worry Denny. Take solace in the fact that the shareholders are pleased with the thought of getting a dividend.

Ha Ha!

Well, I just got off the phone with a UHC claims rep. She looked up the claim and was just as stunned as I was with the "illegible" reason for why the claim was denied. She looked at it an cannot figure out why it was denied. All the information is clearly there and, get this, LEGIBLE! She couldn't do anything right then but is resubmitting it and going to make sure an actual person looks at it... She is also putting a note on it that I want a call when it gets looked at/processed again.

Plus I got the REAL address to send an appeals to now. I should charge them for the price of 2 stamps...

100% Erin Brokovich BS. Deny, deny, deny and after each denial the % of people who continue to pursue the issue declines. Eventually you talk to a human who pretends to be flabbergasted and you get what is rightfully owed. The invalid appeal address is a nice touch. Unfortunately it seems like most insurance companies follow the same script. My mother got injured in a car accident and the antics pulled by the hospital, the insurance, and even her own lawyer probably would've given me a plausible insanity defense if I'd followed through on the thoughts which immediately came to mind. I don't get how I can steal a gallon of gas and go to jail but the insurance company, hospital, and lawyers can steal near infinitely more and there are no repercussions.

Walgreen's just got into it with UHC. No more reduced rate prescriptions for me. They suggested Planned Parenthood or CVS. Planned Parenthood?

Lol badflaps!

Han,

I'm sorry you had to go thru that BS. I hope your mom is okay.

Hopefully this will all be taken care of in by the end of next week.

I'm looking forward to the resolution/next step UHC takes. Will you let us know if it gets resolved? I'm liking our insurance/HSA/L.P. FSA situation less and less with every story like this.

You bet. On a semi-positive note, this is the first time I've ever had a problem. After talking to the claim person I found out that this could actually be a computer problem in that the computer could not "read" the entered documents. As in the computer denied it. It never crossed a persons desk so to speak. This time it definitely will.
