Who gives a sh!t about annoying PA's???
I'm with ya on that. They should rename this thread the "Petty Bi@tching Thread."

Think I read an article mentioning that greater than 50% of the flying public have some level of heightened anxiety when it comes to the actual flying part. I was surprised. I agree, tired but appropriate. FWIW.

If we want to claim to be the best airline in the world, these things are going to help set us apart. Frequent flyers notice this kind of thing.

I've watched a Captain receive a thank you card from a Platinum Medallion because of his PA's. They care, so we should too.

I did not receive a card, but I got a genuine and very gracious “thank you” from a similar passenger for my PA.
The only ops normal PA I ever do is a diplomatic pre door closing announcement to 1) tell them you will not hear from the cockpit in cruise unless something important happens and 2) be nice to the flight attendants.

Now where’s myJD Power trophy? :-p

written match UAL's
-Per Diem should boost to federal max
-MLOA discrimination should be removed from the FOM
- 5:15 Vacation and Training (this would still be well below what FedEx has maintained)
- Fund hotels for newbies
- DH boards with Sky, JS still boards with captain
- WS/GS parameters expanded to include all PBS parameters
- Allow standing slips to cross bid periods
- Sick-if-needed for Reserve
- Reserve pilot list in icrew matches what schedulers see... include 117 data et all
- OOBWS before reserve
- Assign OOBWS after 1700 PCS two days prior (instead of after 0700 one day prior)

Normal length boarding and arrival PA plus a quick heads up as we passed Manhattan on a clear night.

Nothing fancy, but he sounded genuine and kind, that's what I noticed anyway.

200 different opinions behind that door. Some like the tour, some just wanna watch the movie, some want to sleep and some even like to meet people. Make PAs genuine and there's rarely an issue.

It's superfluous.

I welcome them aboard (not "onboard" -- WTF is that?)

I introduce my FO and myself using last names (when doctors introduce themselves as "Mike" then I'll use my first name, until then appropriate decorum.)

I tell them the flight time, expected ride, any possible delays and even the runway in case there are any afficianadoes back there.

It takes 15s. If I added, "Sit back, relax, and enjoy the flight," it would add an unnecessary 2.8s expose me as lazy and cliche.

TMI -

I don't care what your name is...
I already know where I'm going and the scheduled flight time.
I can't do anything about the ride from my pax seat except sit there.
I don't want to hear about possible delays. I care about actual delays.
Screw the afficianados, leave me alone.
