So they basically have to keep rerunning the bids until it all settles out? No wonder these take so long!

Well that and they will run them multiple times with different criteria such as how much they'll backfill in certain categories. Then I think it has to be pitched to management for buy-in or get back to the drawing board.

So theoretically a junior person could AE into ATL 320A, but then immediately be displaced out of it? At which point they look at your displacement bid to figure out where to put you? Or your next AE choice? I guess my question is can you be awarded both an AE and then a displacement?

When a bid processes, it starts with #1 on the seniority list and works its way down. For each pilot it looks at:
Is this pilot under a category freeze? Yes or No
If No, then can this pilot be awarded one of their AE preferences? Yes or No
If No or under a freeze, then is this pilot designated for Mandatory Displacement from their current category? Yes or No
If No, then it moves to the next pilot on the seniority list.
Eventually it will reach a pilot who is designated for Mandatory Displacement from their current category. It then stops and goes to the most senior pilot in that same category and begins to work it’s way down through the category to see if it can find a pilot with a Voluntary Displacement bid to save the original pilot from Mandatory Displacement. If it can, then it awards the VD and moves to the next pilot down the system wide seniority list from the original pilot and continues. If it can not, then it processes the original pilot’s MD bid and then moves on the next pilot.

News from Network featuring Joe Esposito could be useful information to AE shoppers. The information provided seemed a bit too specific to post on a public website. Think Delta pilots with an interest in shiny jets, rumors of big shiny jets and where all these airplanes are going will find a lot to like.
The video was published today on SkyHub Live.

How do posted vacancies factor into this process? If there are no vacancies posted for a category, and it gets down to a VD, will the person getting a VD get the category even with no vacancies (assuming the person whose place they are taking can hold the category).
In short, if I can’t AE to a category due to no openings, would a VD get me in the door?
