The problem with any trench coat is that people wear it indoors.

Also no epaulets on a trench coat. Awful.

How about company approval for a plain black hooded waterproof jacket that I can wear during the walk around under my reflective vest rather than my wool sponge of a jacket or an overcoat that is neither waterproof nor practical to carry around during the summer?

Nobody will bother you during a walk around even without company approval. Company approval means people will walk around with their dumpy looking trench coat in the terminal.

Section 24 E.

They can change our uniforms with 6 months notice after considering the recommendations of the MEC Chairman or his designee.

They have to pay for anything changed though right?

For rainy walkarounds I wear nice black Columbia rain jacket. It stuffs nicely in my bag and takes up very little space. I don’t understand why something like it is not approved for the walkarounds. I’d be surprised if I ever got called out for wearing it.

No one will ever "call you out" for that, especially since the safety vest fits over it anyway.

Because if it’s “approved,” you’ll see people wearing it places other than the ramp. We can’t have nice things.

I suppose. I put mine on prior to exiting the jetway and take it off as soon as I am back inside. I don’t use it often but the times I do I’m very thankful I packed it.

LOL. I for one would gladly welcome a purple tie, or even better no tie, if it meant a more comfortable functional uniform. You guys that take "pride" in this antiquated gaudy cheaply made non functional clown outfit from an entirely different era that we're forced to wear boggle my mind.

My vote would be for a totally modern revamp with modern fabric, comfortable, breathable, lightweight, wrinkle free. A coat that's actually functional and can be thrown in an overhead bin and not wrinkled or ruined easily. I prefer to blend in at the airport, I don't need nor want everyone in the McDonald's line to know I'm a pilot.

But that's just me, I like practical things that make sense. I don't want something that makes me look like a peacock, I'd just like to do my job as efficiently as possible and I wish Delta would toss me a bone there.

Most would, but look at how many other clowns you see trench coating it through the terminal and I can see why we avoid it

Oh man, your ego is way too small to be a delta pilot. That being said, i agree with everything you said.
