Default Required Schedule Check: Reserve

Hello all..did they drop the provision to check your schedule as a reserve pilot at 3 pm base time on your last X day before returning to work? I checked the Scheduling Handbook and I could not find it under “required schedule check”.. I could swear we had to do it a few years back but not sure if FAR 117 rest rules changed that... any guidance would be greatly appreciated..Thx

It's not a required schedule check. They are allowed to put something on your schedule for your first on call day as early as 10am (FAA minimum call out for long call that starts at midnight) as long as they have it on your schedule by 3pm base time the day prior. Otherwise it is the normal 12 hour call out.

You aren't required to check your schedule, it just has to be there by then for the call out to be reduced from the official beginning of your reserve period.

Just to clarify for those with partial x days, they can put something on your schedule with as little a 10 hours to report from the beginning of your call period as long as they assign it 9 hours prior to starting long call.

Yes, we used have to check but like you said, FAR 117 got rid of that.

Pro tip: check your schedule before you go to bed on your last X day, to avoid the midnight call from scheduling with a trip assignment.

Yep. The best way to think about a PR day is that time becomes your "artificial midnight" for purposes of the 9/10/12 hour notification and callout stuff.

Thanks for the input...so the 10/12 hour assignments are for “check in” and not departure time-correct? Also, this may sound silly but are the midnight long call start times based on the time zones for your base? So much is done on “Mecca time” that I am beginning to wonder!

call out is for duty on, which is your show time or Short call start time. Call times are always your base time.
