From Fidelity at 0910 EDST....

Delta absorbs order for 10 Airbus A350 jets cancelled by Latam: sourcesREUTERS - 8 MINUTES AGOPARIS (Reuters) - Delta Air Lines (DAL) has taken over an order worth roughly $3 billion at list prices for 10 Airbus A350 jetliners from Latam Airlines Group (LTM) ), two industry sources said.

Airbus announced the cancellation of 10 A350 aircraft in a monthly order update last week. It also announced a simultaneous order for 10 A350 aircraft from an undisclosed airline.

Industry sources said the order for the 10 planes had been transferred to Delta under plans anticipated when the two carriers forged an alliance in 2019.

However Delta was not immediately named in Airbus's tally of orders and deliveries.

Neither airline was immediately available for comment. Airbus declined to comment on the transaction.

Was this in any way a new development? Source articles could easily be interpreted to mean this was in motion long ago and isn't any sort of a fresh commitment to anything.

Perhaps, but at least it’s not bad news!

Can we turn the 777s into cargo jets if they take the 350s and we have excess WB supply. Seems like the 777 is a champ at freight.

No...same 10 orders from before.

Converting a 777-200ER is not cheap nor easy, which is why it hasn’t happened yet, largely due to the composite floor beams...just not worth it. 200LRs might be viable. 777-300ERs just got a freight conversion not too long ago. Here is a recent thread on 777 passenger to freight discussion that has a lot more info:

Air Canada is using their 777-300ER’s for cargo.

One little interesting tidbit of info. Delta is using the 350 for dedicated cargo flights in the immediate term. Charters, I’m pretty sure. LAX-ICN, ICN-PVG, maybe some other cities in the mix. You can see it in open time, and a cross-check of known route authorities as well as TravelNet confirms an absence of scheduled pax service.
