Default Moving expenses reimbursement...

I got a VD and will move to the new base. How do I go about getting the moving expenses reimbursed? Is there a document that explains the process? (The PWA shows what is available, but doesn’t seem to explain the how-to) Can I opt for a lump sum or do I have to use a moving company?

Like said in the other thread be careful about jumping the gun and moving to a new base to fast. Others have done that and had the position cancel and have had to commute back to where they started.

If you choose to move prior to being converted and the bid is subsequently cancelled, you have to pay back the moving expenses. If you’re converting in July, I’d take that bet. If it’s months from now you may be smart to hang on a bit unless you would move anyways.

Highlights. If your move is eligible (MD or VD and subject to a few distance/other limitations):

- Up to 24k pounds from old permanent residence to new permanent residence OR to an intermediary storage for up to a month and then to new residence
- 2 cars. Or 55 cents/mile if you drive (greater than 600 miles)
- S1 passes for house hunting, a couple commutes and for the family to go one-way on moving day
- 1 day pay/no credit for each 400 miles between old base and new base, or old residence and new base. Whichever is less. Up to 7 days max
- $2k in misc expenses after move is executed
- Insurance on items being moved up to $150k in value

Probably missed some other odds and ends but those are some of the big points

Look on deltanet for “relocation services” and you can find the company contact that handles moves. (Alternatively call your CPO). There is no document explaining the process.
There is no lump sum, no do-it-yourself. No uhual, no Penske. (Even if it’s half priced, company is a hard no)
If you move before your conversion date, you pay up front and get reimbursed later. If you move after conversion date, delta is direct billed. Good luck getting “moving days”, it’s a pain.
The company picks your moving van line.
Read PWA 6 like 17 times, and then read it 20 more times.

I used the company’s van service when we moved, paid out of pocket. They were great.

I moved a year ago on a VD. There was a form on DLNet to get approved then the moving company takes it from there. Flawless process, they were surprisingly efficient.

Thanks for the replies! I’m running into another issue now. My new home is 129sm straight line from the airfield. Is the 125sm a hard cut off? I’m thinking it is. Either way, I was making the move anyways, just thought a little help would be nice.

Can't you just say 125 miles? If somehow questioned about it, would they really raise a stink over 4 miles?
