Quote: I'm not invoking any ploys. I'm taking note of the circumstances that are quite different for almost 2,000 families than they were last year. Many of those folks have never faced anything like this before. Many of these folks believed they were part of the Delta family before covid hit. People are human. People have emotions. The airlines have had previous furloughs but most of these pilots probably have not. Becoming unemployed may very well bring out the illogical/irrational/emotional side of anyone - I can fall into the same traps under far less dire circumstances. If you want to do tough love, go for it. You do you... the company clearly feels the same.

Personally, if I were Flight Ops king for a day, I would work a little harder not to be tone deaf to my employees - particularly those who needn't be furloughed but will be anyway after I've used them as hostages. Happy pilots will make you profits for decades; disgruntled ones will cost you plenty. We're not robots; nuance matters.

The AE that comes out Friday will be telling. If there are any A or B 220 positions posted(especially A) it will be game over for the company's bluff

I think the AE will be based on furloughing everyone 1 Nov. If it’s a bluff, they will just cancel it before ever announcing results and start over.

My guess is that they are planning on releasing some hostages tomorrow. This may be waaayyy over optimistic on my part, but hear me out...

We’re out of time for the involuntary proposal. Flt Ops tipped their hand today with that Flt Ops letter. Yes they intend on furloughing, but it appears unlikely they can afford to furlough all 1941. I’m guessing they release 220+ (maybe some more) for a few of reasons...

1) they need LOA 20-03 more than we do (it benefits them more), and releasing some folks early could generate some good will among pilots and possibly sway some No voters to vote Yes.

2) the upcoming AE will tip their hand further and if they’re posting it now rather than waiting until November, it’s probably because they need to move people soonest and they want to start processing awards now

3) some of those that could be saved may go NQ at the end of this month or otherwise still need to be reinstated and need training. If they move quickly and drop the charade, they can have more folks in place and ready by the holidays to soak up flying.

Maybe it’s a pipe dream of mine. To me the timing suggests they’re going to release some folks. And since it’s a WAG I’ll go with 3-400. 😀🤞

Hope I’m right, I’m probably wrong (again, wishful thinking).

I agree with your assessment wholeheartedly. Spot on. While the company is somewhat over staffed, 1700+ furloughs is absurd just like the original displacement AE was.

Plus the optics of furloughing the most after the most profitable year in airline aviation history. AA is most likely going to BK and we furlough more than them? That puts a lot of stink on Ed’s legacy and stopping that is worth something to him. If he moves the needle and offers some good will tomorrow, I think our pilots will largely go along with it and help save the rest if our help is needed.

Quote: The re-written version sounds like more of a F-U than the original. I’m going to laugh when they start cancelling flights.

Hey Delta, don’t bother calling as I’m not going to answer!
I think you are sadly mistaken if you think people aren’t lining there schedule up to capitalize on GS opportunities over Thanksgiving. I think very few flights get cancelled. Pilots want the $$$

Any scheduling gurus have an idea of how impactful a bonanza of GSs over Thanksgiving will have on increasing staffing per the staffing formula?
