Seems like a good place to ask this question. Dress code for positive space commuting can be bluejeans right? The FOM says business casual for deadhead but makes no mention of dress code for company business travel. Thanks

It seems to me that’s the defining factor that separates “positive space travel” from “space available travel.” So, to answer your question, yes, unless they choose another option to cover the relevant trip (get another pilot, delay your flight etc.)
Someone else pointed out the changed requirement for a backup flight. I do think that is an improvement.

Seems to me a pretty good deal. I never expected them to bump paying passengers for a PS commuter. I did expect them to block paying passengers who haven’t booked at the time the PS commute listing is made. The other solid part of the deal is when you book that PS commute you retain that seat even if 18 nonrevs with a more senior date of hire show up to bump you from the space available seat you were planning on occupying. Is it perfect? No. The company picking me up at home and driving me to a private airport where I can avoid TSA to get on a private jet to fly to base would be perfect. While I wait on that, this seems pretty solid.
Posive Space Commung Posive Space Commung begins today. Pilots are now permied to book posive space using the “Company Business” booking tool found on TravelNet under the same terms as travel to/from training, both to AND from their work assignment. Pilots experiencing difficulty in lisng for a flight should contact Pilot Assist, and if sales are available, they will assist you in booking.
In the past that meant only M class seats on the aircraft not if there were any seats available.

I don't think they will bump a paying passenger, although I keep getting different answers depending on the rep I talk to. This is from the Negotiators notepad 20-14:

Literally no one, ever, thought this was going to be an AlphaBoss provision where any pilot anytime can strut up to the gatehouse and tell the agent they will be bumping a paying pax in a few minutes for any and every commute at our whims. That's just stupid. Anyone who thought that, or feels entitled to that, deserves every bit of dissapointment and false angst they're wallowing in.
There's still a dramatic amout of value in PS commuting though. The very reasonable requirement that there has to be a seat at time of booking does very little to "diminish" one of the greatest gains in that area we've ever seen in the history of the industry (which is obviously why its temporary).
First of all, 2 flights goes to 1. That alone is a massive improvement. Sometimes 2 can mean showing up half an hour sooner (Shuttle commuters etc). But many times its several hours and its not rare at all to have the second flight requirement result in a day prior commute.
Secondly, for all lineholders and most resevres, most flights aren't fully booked at the time of planing a commute. That's hardly ever (percentage wise) what wrecks a plan. Its the time in between where flights fill up with HopeKillers and senior non revs who like to list the same hour of the flight. There's ghost non rev listings for those who shotgun their listings all over the system with the intention of only taking one of their reserveations, etc.
Before this incredibly valuable provision, it realy didn't matter how many seats were open at time of commute planning; you had to check constantly over the hours, days or even weeks inbetween as you waited, and watched, those available seats fill up closer to departure time. Now, as long as its available when you look, you can reserve it. That benefit is absolutely massive. Any claim that we're somehow being screwed or that "goalposts" are being moved is just silliness.

I have called scheduling when the flight was oversold and I missed my first off-line commute. Less than 5 minutes, I had a confirmation number for the oversold Delta flight. If they want you there, they'll find a way to get you there.

I agree 100%. The goalposts weren't moved. The provision, as I see it in the LOA, is you book yourself positive space. If there isn't a spot to book, go through the channels as appropriate to get a seat. If there aren't any, work through the problem.
