So as a result of 20-03, I notice that in my category they are hammering us with short calls. Is this an attempt to strong arm is into a 20% savings by forcing us to bid ULC reserve or else be awarded 6 short calls/month?
Just curious what you all think. 0 trips and 8 short calls seems excessive. This happening company wide?

I am saying 8 people assigned short call with 0 trips in open time. Not that I have been assigned 8. Historically, up until about 10 days ago it was MAYBE 1-2 short call assignments per bid period on my fleet. Now they’re getting handed out like candy.

Not saying that's what this is, but there is a history in using increased SC to prove a point to us pilots.

Well, 3-4 years ago, they were doing the same thing after those Whale idiots got caught sitting SC from across the country, and an audit showed they had no TSA/NonRev/JS/etc travel recorded in several years (4 pilots got temporarily fired, I think 3 got their jobs back?). So we all got to wear diapers for quite a few bid periods.

Nothing in OT and no IROP....short call start time roster (I know it's not regulatory) shows only 2 x SC needs....result? 6-7 placed on SC.
Scheduling does that because the PWA allows them to.

Sucks. we need to make SC pay more or something to deter this action. So I've been telling my reps.
After sitting SC for the 5th time - there's usually 6-9 of us on SC at any one time. And nothing in open time. no irop. practice bleeding. I savored the short time the max they could give us was 2.

What’s with the angst about a certain number of people on SC with nothing in open time and no IROP?
For one, shouldn’t trips get covered before SC is assigned, meaning the first short call should be assigned after there are zero trips in open time?
Secondly, short call is a tool the schedulers have. While I agree that excessive people on SC is ridiculous, for a scheduler it is good to have those tools to use throughout the day.
-someone who used to bid reserve exclusively and hates short call
