Everything in ATL is being upgauged coming out of the Pandemic. While Endeavor CRJ flying is moving to the 717, past 717 flying is moving to the 320/737. The great upgauge shuffle

Random data point for junior captain. Mid 17 hire here. Last Friday when the email came out there were 59 senior to me with DTW717A on their bid. Today that number is 104. I know it doesn't mean they'll all get it, but many are putting in for it.

Hopefully for those junior bidders, the senior ones are putting percentages or line holder restrictions on their bid. There always seems to be a surprise. I know the NYC 7ERA plug off the last AE and he was stunned when it dropped to him.

Those numbers are useless. On the pre-covid January bid I could have held NYC73N A and those numbers were showing 300+ senior to me bidding for it. I would have had close to a dozen below me also. That may only help the super senior, if at all.

The interesting category to watch may very well be NYC320A. With 85 in Atlanta and 40 in NYC the backfill numbers could be yuge.

Most folks probably have percentage bids in. Speaking from experience, having decent halfway seniority and a line on the 73N/320B or higher pays more than 717A reserve. Especially if you'll be on reserve for a year or more

Based on what I'm seeing as a 14 hire, it appears that a vast majority of the people currently bidding it are 15/16 hires.

What trip said about the bids. Lots of percentage bids, so don't be surprised when you get an award with 185 people senior to you bidding a spot. There is a time where that count can be a little useful, but until we get back to bids every 6-9 weeks, it's just something fun thing to look at.

More on the point of your post, you have to caveat your post a bit. This is only true if you want to play the GS and/or drop/WS game all month...many do not. Your game is great for ATL based pilots who live close and don't mind the hustle, but it's mostly not available to anyone outside of mecca. Most bases don't have number of broken up low block/high credit, 1 & 2 days trips going out that ATL does. Having tons of daily W going out with less than a few hours to report is just not a normal occurrence (except in ATL). It's a good gig if you can get it, just not a consistent reality anywhere else.

According to JL in the last townhall the 717 is the most successful airplane (financially) Delta has ever acquired and he thinks it will be around a lot longer than people talk about.....

Some good seniority to be had on that, they said the April 21 bid half the 717 FO'S bid off it...

The bottom half. Movement seems to be mostly off the bottom.

Also many UNAs were dumped there as a holding spot on their initial comeback bid (which didn’t have a seat lock) and then bid where they really wanted once more positions were opened up on the follow up bid. Many of those people are still sitting NQAT and will never actually train on the 717.

Gonna disagree with you there. 72 hours 717A is the same as ~102 hours 320/737B.

102 hours is a lot of work for most folks. LCA buyoffs or rolling thunder? Yes, you'll make more as an FO. 16-18 days of work each month at least. That isn't realistic for most.

Plus a lot of months on the 717A pay over 72 hours.
