Jan 2014 hire is already 68XX. That's almost 50% of the list hired in the last 7 years.

Just pointing out the hypocrisy of people like you. BTW...this is humor...since you seem to be a little too serious ALL the time....lighten up Francis
nothing says “we don’t claim victim status” like these rants complaining that those kids made fun of your belt clip

not arguing for or against, but what I saw here but mostly on FB by many who would traditionally be called “deadzoners” definitely went against buck’s comment about non millennials not claiming victim status. Like everything else, some have a legitimate claim (like those who got furloughed in the past) and others like to talk about how tough they have had it.

Regardless, my age doesn’t affect my ability to do my job. I got lucky and was hired here at a relatively young age. I’ve flown with 3 digit numbers who have been an absolute pleasure. I’ve flown with my fair share of 55+ pilots, and can count ONE who I absolutely did not like. He retired and he began almost every conversation with “well you young guys…” or “your generation….”

I guess I struggle to understand why age is even relevant in this job? A 350 Captain passes more or less the same checkride that a 350 B does. A 62 year old 717 captain passes the same checkride a 31 year old 717 captain does. We all do the same job. Younger guys just don’t have war stories to tell about their day in the L-1011. Other than that—leave the ageism crap at the door (both ways). Younger guys are not gonna start a charitable trust to fund your retirement. The same way you didn’t start a charitable trust to fund their flight training. Just relaxxxx and enjoy your time.

Hey man, unless you've flown a NDB approach to mins in a combat zone at night in the hurricane snow, there is no way you could ever figure out how to flu the A350.

Pssh. If you can fly the 320 the 350 is a breeze. Just more gizmos to play with.

Maybe experience(old age) has taught me not to be so quick to judge outward appearances. Or, maybe I find it amusing to drive my old battered car and people in their upscale leased European models snub their nose.... if they only knew. Hopefully as we all age, we become more tolerant and less superficial.

I know. This career has always had its ups and downs and by and large, most of us get it. I was hired in late 2000. Furloughed for 3 1/2 years. My first opportunity to upgrade didn’t come till 2014. Pay was a fraction of what it is today for most of my 20 years. Looking at the 3 year upgrades is enough to make a guy jealous. And when that 3 year upgrade is in his or her early to mid 30’s and possibly single, making $200K+…If I let myself, I could be jealous and feel sorry for myself, but that’s just life in this industry. It doesn’t bother me one bit, I’m actually happy for all of those who timed it perfectly, even though their parents deserve all the credit for that timing. 🤣 I’m just glad we all made it through, what could have been worse than 9/11, in terms of industry pain, as well as we did and are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

It’s easy to let jealousy and self pity get the best of you, but it’s not too hard to find the good in any situation. You just have to try a little.

This obviously isn’t directed at you, I’m just trying to say we aren’t all bitter and angry at all you newer guys that are having a much better time with this industry.

My uncle got hired by Pan Am in the 60’s. I learned early on not to try to compare my career to anyone else’s, lest I get upset and jealous.
