Large SUV

Check your ego at the door of the nearest Honda/Toyota dealership and get a mini van. The driver controlled sliding doors reduce the stress level by a factor of 10 when loading and unloading kids. If you go the jumbo SUV route, be sure the test drive includes parking at one or two of your (or your wife's) favorite stores. Costco doesn't count, because they have smart site planners.

I’ve had 3 suburbans and 2 Honda Odyssey over the years. I preferred the suburban(s) at the time (towed a variety of campers) but the wife got me into an odyssey and I never looked back. Fantastic traveling vehicle, super easy to maneuver and park. Take the middle row out, and fold the 3rd row into the floor, and you’ve got a moving van... never did anything other than routine service on either odyssey. Wife currently has a Honda Pilot, keeps comparing it to the last odyssey... I see another odyssey in my future, happy wife...
Seriously, spend a few hundred bucks and rent some representative samples of what you are looking at and see how they fit your lifestyle, if you’re on the fence. It’s cheap in the grand scheme of things.

Many thanks on the well-wishes and insights gents, this is exactly what I was looking for! My brother actually owns a Sienna that he offered to sell me on the cheap, but it’s only got 7 seats and from what I’ve read Toyota doesn’t do 7-8 seat conversions on it.
I’ll definitely add the minivan options to my search (provided my fragile pilot ego stays intact that is). Glad to hear good things about the Telluride though. That might be in pole position provided I can find one at a decent price. Anyone else who has personal experience owning something in this market segment feel free to chime in. Mo info, mo better.

We bought a 2005 Yukon XL brand new when we had spawn #1. Drive it for 225,000 miles and got rid of it in 2018.
Wife wanted Toyota Sienna...we got one.
Everything about the Sienna that previous posters mentioned is true. However...
Wife wants a Yukon XL again.

I shouldn’t laugh but I can totally see that How was the reliability on your Yukon?

My wife HATES minivans but settled on the Telluride. We only have 2 small kiddos (4 year old and a 6 month old). My wife also HATES driving big cars so the Telluride was the biggest thing she'd be okay with. Mind you, when you go buy a family car, she'll be doing most of the driving and not the other way around. If she's ok with the minivan then go for it.

We rented a Yukon XL during our last Disney trip...that sealed the deal to go back to Yukon from the Sienna.

As awesome as the reparations thread is, thought I’d get some info from any SUV owners out there. Just found out the wife is pregnant with baby number 4! Been researching SUVs, that and getting snipped of course .
In-laws don’t drive so need something that will seat 8. Heard good things about the Kia Telluride but never owned a Kia before. Anybody own a GMC Yukon? Like how it looks, but wonder about mx costs. Escalades look nice but a bit pricey. Wish the Model X sat 8 or I’d probably just get a used one of those. Appreciate any advice!

FWIW, the new Yukon's are even more well designed. I test drove one a month ago, but they are/were in high demand and none in the color I was willing to splurge for were available at the time, so in my 2011 off I go. Don't really need the XL version anymore, but occasionally it still comes in handy.
