This. Especially if you want to go anywhere. Most SUV’s that fit 8 don’t do great in the room for luggage dept. We’re on our second and will probably send it off to college with the baby. I would like a report on the Telluride, though. It looks like a nice ride.

I’ve had 3 suburbans and 2 Honda Odyssey over the years. I preferred the suburban(s) at the time (towed a variety of campers) but the wife got me into an odyssey and I never looked back. Fantastic traveling vehicle, super easy to maneuver and park. Take the middle row out, and fold the 3rd row into the floor, and you’ve got a moving van... never did anything other than routine service on either odyssey. Wife currently has a Honda Pilot, keeps comparing it to the last odyssey... I see another odyssey in my future, happy wife...

Seriously, spend a few hundred bucks and rent some representative samples of what you are looking at and see how they fit your lifestyle, if you’re on the fence. It’s cheap in the grand scheme of things.

Many thanks on the well-wishes and insights gents, this is exactly what I was looking for! My brother actually owns a Sienna that he offered to sell me on the cheap, but it’s only got 7 seats and from what I’ve read Toyota doesn’t do 7-8 seat conversions on it.

I’ll definitely add the minivan options to my search (provided my fragile pilot ego stays intact that is). Glad to hear good things about the Telluride though. That might be in pole position provided I can find one at a decent price. Anyone else who has personal experience owning something in this market segment feel free to chime in. Mo info, mo better.

Honda Odyssey EX-L or above. Leather easier to clean. 10 drink holders. Get the rubber mats to save your sanity.

My wife HATES minivans but settled on the Telluride. We only have 2 small kiddos (4 year old and a 6 month old). My wife also HATES driving big cars so the Telluride was the biggest thing she'd be okay with. Mind you, when you go buy a family car, she'll be doing most of the driving and not the other way around. If she's ok with the minivan then go for it.

What's the saying? Happy wife.. Happy life?

We bought a 2005 Yukon XL brand new when we had spawn #1. Drive it for 225,000 miles and got rid of it in 2018.

Wife wanted Toyota Sienna...we got one.

Everything about the Sienna that previous posters mentioned is true. However...

Wife wants a Yukon XL again.

I shouldn’t laugh but I can totally see that How was the reliability on your Yukon?

My living room has a nice understated wall hanging with beautiful calligraphy.......and that exact same saying in large letters. Just in case I forget

Up until the 225K mark, reliability was good....kept up with all the oil changes, tire rotations, etc. Still had original transmission, engine, etc. Years of salt exposure from the Northeast winters were taking a toll on the underside. It just got to the point where we had a few minor nuisance items and the cost to fix them was more than the truck was worth.

We rented a Yukon XL during our last Disney trip...that sealed the deal to go back to Yukon from the Sienna.

Escalades look nice but a bit pricey. Wish the Model X sat 8 or I’d probably just get a used one of those. Appreciate any advice!
I've owned a 2011 Yukon Denali XL since new and it's been (IMO) very reliable. Had one wheel-bearing repaired (started to leak some grease) and both electric seat tracks eventually went out (at about the 80K mark) other than that it's been oil changes and adding gas through the 120K so far. Overall it's been as as or more reliable than our 2016 Honda Odyssey (that does have 80K on it as well). Odyssey has needed a new rack and pinion as first one started to leak and the auto closing doors need periodic adjustment.

FWIW, the new Yukon's are even more well designed. I test drove one a month ago, but they are/were in high demand and none in the color I was willing to splurge for were available at the time, so in my 2011 off I go. Don't really need the XL version anymore, but occasionally it still comes in handy.
