I will agree that WB B creates a low grade tiredness. But even if I can’t get back to sleep after the 0200 wake up, or I’m a bit tired signing in, etc, I know I’ll be able to sleep soon enough on break (I sleep fine on the plane). Segmented sleep, it’s a thing.

But, man, having an exhausting day on NB and not sleeping well the night before, knowing I won’t be able to get some rest for 12 or more is terrible for me. I honestly think I was more tired after a grueling 4 day and that was before the optimizer!

Im more tired working a 5 day stint of military days than flying a 6 day Europe trip.

Crewdawg nailed it. The wake up after your 1:40 “nap” is brutal. The wake up in Europe for happy hour after your 3-4hr nap is brutal. The 0200 wide awake wake up sucks, although mitigated with melatonin. Commuting home after your (insert your 9-12hr redeye of choice here) redeye is not easy.

There’s plenty of pros, but the cons I just mentioned made me really dislike my WB B job the last year. Just off OE on NB A and the trip was a blast. Flying felt fun again. I know that will change with time......but for now.....just what I needed. Until Igetgummed ;-)

Does 50% WBB (330) pretty much guarantee holidays off, and no work if bidding reserve? 😁

Most of the new NB A’s that came from WB B that I’ve flown with are a bit shell shocked by the pace of operations in the domestic NB world. And they haven’t seen anything yet, it’s just getting going…..

Here’s a 5 day trip next month on the 717: 3 legs, 18 hour LO, 2 legs 10:50, 4 legs, 10:30, 4 legs, 10:30, 3 legs. I’m exhausted just thinking about it...

Yep. I remember flying international with a few B’s who were sooooo happy. Later I flew on their jumpseats after they made NB A. They were unsmiling, glum and seemed stressed. That said, I’ve also had a couple friends who were just destroyed by international flying (couldn’t sleep on the plane, circadian rhythm AFU) and were as happy as clams in mud flying domestic. Everyone is different.

But generally I agree: domestic sucks.

I'm a 330B displaced to 717B and pretty happy really. Had I not been displaced I may have stayed on the 330 until I could move over to the left seat. I figured out my sleep on the 330 but realized it takes a toll we don't truly see. Gonna chill on the 717 a bit longer. They both have pros and cons.

My advice is get up to the 330/350/764 and try the WB life before going to the left seat. You should at least try out the international life first.

Plan on a couple SCs and possibly one trip per month in current conditions. Once international travel recovers you can expect 3-4 SC and one trip, possibly two per month. Living locally is the best scenario. If you can cover LC from home it’s still a good gig.
