New Hire Class Drops
#6551
I commuted from MCO to ATL for several years, until recently. Central Florida has a lot of commuters, but it’s definitely doable, a large portion of them are commuting to WB fleets. MCO-ATL has roughly 15 daily flights with 3-4 getting to ATL before 0900, and it’s a 6 hour drive from my house to ATL, in a pinch. There’s also DAB, MLB TPA and SRQ, depending on where you live. If I was doing it again, I’d probably choose anything ATL again. Other bases from MCO have much less frequency. Also, afternoon commutes in MCO in the summer can implode in a hurry. Plan accordingly and you’ll be fine.
Welcome to Delta!

Holding a line is very dependent. With current projected hiring, I would expect it would be earlier than that. There are lots of vacant 320 positions, and it’s a growing fleet, so I would expect that to continue. Preference every 320 base offered (ATL, DTW, then NYC had many unfilled vacancies on the last bid, so that’s fortuitous for you). Good luck, and welcome to the company.

Anyone got an idea of what to bid for with being an ORD commuter? DTW, ATL, NYC are bases I’m looking for but in terms of the trips and the fleet I’m kinda still blurry on what will provide the best commutable options. Gonna have to commute for at least one year unfortunately.

In a real crunch, you could (conceivably) make the drive to DTW. Not ideal, but possible.

I've met many who commute ORD-DTW. I have no personal knowledge about how frequency / loads / number of commuters would play into your decision, but I'd consider one important aspect:

ATL is pretty equal across the board as far as fleet goes, 320 probably being the slowest movement.
DTW 717 is consistently commutable, 320 and 73 ebb and flow with how commutable their trips are.
NYC, the 220 wouldn’t be bad since most trips are out of LGA and lots of ORD overnights, but you’ll need a crashpad. I wouldn’t expect to hold commutable trips any time soon on any narrow body NYC fleet. My main gripe with the NYC commute was getting to/from JFK… the 7ER is only out of JFK.
