The term "mission" is a subtle suggestion that completing the flight is more important that it really is. It is also leftover military nomenclature used by people in FltOps who still wear callsign nametags on Fridays.

I call bull crap here. Never seen anyone wearing with anything other than their name.

Well - depends how you define the mission. 121 mission is to deliver on time comfortable and efficient transport from A to B, without ever compromising safety.
That is a mission I signed up for. (no military history)

In the interest of corporate harmony, I chose the definition penned by our executives.

Delta Air Lines Mission Statement

We—Delta's employees, customers, and community partners together form a force for positive local and global change, dedicated to bettering standards of living and the environment where we and our customers live and work.

That is our mission. Pilots conduct flights.

I rode in a cab from JFK-LGA with a driver on a "mission" to get us there. It was the scariest ride of my life. Please don't do that to air line passengers.

I saw it one time. I asked the guy about what he flew in the military. Turned out he was a civilian only guy who just wanted a call sign.

seen it once, but it was not an obvious call sign and was a (albeit uncommon) first name, just not his. I’ve yet to see anything like “maverick” or “slider”

Leaving uniform decisions up to individual pilots is a terrible decision because I’ve seen what pilots wear when they choose what they are going to wear. There’s a reason there are uniform standards. We’d look like a bunch of clowns in the circus. Now wear your uniform as specified in FOM and stop whining like the babies you all are acting like.

What year did you graduate from the Air Force Academy?
