Quote: This brings up another point. Unstacking protections would also need to be the same for reserves as it is line holders. That fact that we essentially have no protections for reserves to be unstacked is beyond bonkers to me.
Else Start Next
Quote: Why are people wondering if reserve pilots would pick up GS’s on off days?

Pay it double just like a line holder and that will solve the issue.

Line holders pickup endless GS’s on off days and they actually have to fly their entire lines to get the trigger.
They have more off days at the trigger level.
Quote: What even more crazy is that there are circumstances where Number 1 reserve bidder gets unstacked but number 15 reserve bidder gets that day off. Though rare, I've seen it happen and it was completely legit with the PWA.
If you are senior and bidding reserve use the all or nothing else start next option. Doing so either prevents the unstacking or moves you on to the next bid group. Just make sure you follow all the reserve rules to prevent shooting thyself in the foot.

I think you're assuming I'm willing to accept a line for specific days off. I know how to mitigate unstacking, but that's not the point. Point is, unstacking should be capped at 50% and 70% for everyone in the category, not just line holders.

Yeah, it's ridiculous the number one pilot in a category could bid reserve and be unstacked (and often is).

Unstacking shouldn't just be capped, it shouldn't exist. If a legal (legal legal and company constraints legal) line can be built using the remaining pairings at bidder's seniority subject to their bid preferences, then that's what they should get. Only if it falls off the bottom should things get assigned involuntarily, as they normally would anyways.

In other words... unstacking abrogates seniority.
I’m a RES-by-choice and starting to gain some in-category seniority. Is somebody willing to break down how to mitigate getting a coverage award on a date that someone junior doesn’t receive
one?

Except by its very definition, unstacking HONORS seniority. As for the comment that "unstacking shouldn't exist"...then I suppose if everyone in the category Preferred Off December 25 then the system shouldn't assign a single trip flying over Christmas Day?

In fact, under Line of Time bidding, ANY line that flew over a holiday was/is "unstacked in advance."

There is NOTHING wrong with unstacking in general. The company's flippant use of it for reserve pilots, even senior ones, is the problem. The fact that the company already wants even more than they already have (too much leeway with) is the problem...NOT the concept itself.
