Speaking of, this is an incredible benefit. Most of my friends in other high paying industries haven't heard of 16% with no self contribution required

Above is the quote that I originally responded to. Trip was talking about a great benefit that his friends don’t get. It is irrelevant what his friends get unless taken in the context of a total career and the benefits of one as a whole versus the other as a whole.

Meh. Not really. I think he is talking strictly 401k. I don't know of ANY other profession/business that has a 401k contribution even approaching that amount much less without requiring a matching contribution from the employee. Also, the fact that we are age discriminated is irrelevant other than it makes this benefit even better. Most other professions can 'fly till you die' to use the parlance. If we had a match, and no DB retirement it would become a so-so benefit and then our 'retirement' would be more comparable to other professions. jmho... ymmv.

So... now that we know inflation is ticking up at 8+%/year, what is an acceptable pay increase for our contract?

And.... Our contract was amendable in 2019. We are behind 3+ years. There is no Contract 2022.

Don’t negotiate in public.

Having said that, the first 13% of any raise (and counting) only gets us back to break even with our last raise on 1/1/19.

We're content with our current rates based on our performance numbers.

The company is covering flying with an ample amount of GSs. It's hard to pass up. Especially at Captain rates. How many jobs out there right now has an employer offering at many times $5k-$10k to fly a single trip. Folks talk about inflation. A pilot can wipe out a year's worth of inflation with a single Greenie. Now if a pilot is more flexible, enterprising and willing to "make hay while the sun is shining" one can set a solid foundation to build wealth.

So Trip...you say "folks talk about inflation" as if it is no big deal? Please explain! Should I pick up more green slips, work more, spend more of my priceless and limited time on this planet with my family to work more?

What about my friends who are on a teacher salary?

Inflation is a BIG deal to the 95% of Americans not making a pilot salary! I guess we will find out this year how Americans feel after the elections but please don't trivialize it. GS costs can be significant unless you are single with no kids

What about the military folks that are deployed for months? Do they not have Family too? The hardest working pilot still has plenty of time for family. It's funny how folks act like a 5 Day GS is a 6 month deployment
