Auto-correct is some low hanging fruit. I'll set the bar at 10 years. If you've been here longer than that, give your experience. We all know that these days, NB Captains are "expected" to do the walk. I disagree with that expectation, even though I perpetuate it. FO's, don't judge your CA on their ability to walk around the jet, judge them after the trip when all is said and done. There are people here giving you perspective as to why YOU'RE the problem if you're getting wrapped around the axle on day one.

Fair enough. Though I might slightly differ, I can respect that.

FWIW, I think we should be teaching the FO's they should always assume they will get the walk around*. I don't think we should foster a culture where FO's feel entitled, and get butthurt if their Captain chooses otherwise (not accusing you of that).

Respect goes both ways...

*...and that FO's try to fill out the hotel sheet - before the FA's whenever possible, aways tip every driver something, and that Captains should always buy all beers and probationary FO's meals, don't GS with pilots on furlough, and...

You realize that's close to only ~30% of the seniority list now..

Agree with all except the hotel sheet. Okay let's talk about the hotel sheet. Why is it that can't have our names pre-printed and keys already made? If your names aren't correct, line through and fix. The expectation for an on-time, unchanged flight should be to show up, tell them a flight number and keys are handed over immediately.

Quote: So you're admitting the captain doesn't have to do any of the preflight and you think that's justified. I operate under the assumption because it has to get done so I reluctantly do your job for you in the interest of CRM. It shouldn't be the FO who has to keep the peace for the emotionally stunted CA but, alas
How is that an admission, it's policy. You can operate under whatever ASSUMPTIONS you like. I operate under my training and manuals. I will admit (and have repeatedly) to thinking it's the FOs job if that is what you are getting at.

I couldn't have said it better myself. It starts with an announcement of policy change and ends with memorializing it in the manual system. It doesn't just evolve because a new guy thinks it's a good idea.

Somehow they have figured out this trickery at international destinations

This is exactly why Fangs pointed out the new way isn't necessarily better than the old. Acting like you're doing the CA a favor destroys CRM just as much as the theoretical CA that waits until D-20 to do something. Neither are good.
