I believe the company didn’t want to have to deal with the flood of voluntary verification forms, and addressed it by giving everyone 120 (was 100 in C15) sick hours no questions asked - except for good faith basis calls, which were further restricted in C19.
What is the difference between the good faith basis calls and a regular verification?

14.F./14.F.4. They can still GFB you just for cause regardless of how much sick time you've used. We should have gotten rid of that in C19 but we left it in there for some reason. Only exemption if you use less than 50 hours in previous sick year(s).

Why was that a huge concession? The vast majority of pilots never need to verify anything. Under that system if you verified something voluntarily to avoid a possibly verification later the net result was exactly the same. 1 verification.

PWA 14.F.4 “When individual circumstances exist that give the Company a good faith basis to inquire regarding the medical reason for a pilot’s use of sick leave, such pilot may be required to state the nature of their sickness in general terms to their Chief Pilot. At the time of notification, the pilot will be provided all of the specific reason(s) in support of the Company’s good-faith basis inquiry. Following such discussion, the Chief Pilot may:
a. consider the current sick occurrence to be verified, or
b. require the pilot to verify their sickness by providing a doctor’s certificate, provided the pilot has been directed to do so within three calendar days after the start date of the sick occurrence.
Note: Such individual circumstances may not be derived solely from the amount of sick leave used by the pilot or the frequency of their sick occurrences.
Exception: A pilot who has used 50 or fewer of their available sick leave hours in the previous sick leave year will not be subject to any good-faith inquiry

“Regular” verification is required for subsequent sick usage if, in the preceding 12 bid periods, you have used more than 120 hours of unverified sick hours.

So in layman’s terms, GFB is the company thinking you are not really sick and asking for a note to prove it. The 120 hour verification is required for all future sick once exceeded (until your trailing 12-months drops below 120 again).

Tell that to someone who had a single event that put them over the threshold who then gets a common cold.

The even bigger concession was making it a rolling lookback as opposed to a fixed sick leave year.

Im glad to have the improvements to sick from this cycle, and to have finally stopped the downward spiral of our sick leave benefit after the last several rounds of negotiations where we essentially let the Company rewrite it for us.

I'm pretty sure we're the only major airline where pilots have to get doctors notes on demand to prove you were really sick (GFB). That's regional airline pilot pushing stuff. It's hard to understand how they expect us to be adults and treat us like adults in almost every other aspect, yet are still so petty about sick time usage. Why has this always been such an irritant to this company even through all the management changes over the years?

Agree on it being demeaning and irritating. But I think we are also the only airline that gets their sick bank restored with up to 270 hours a year.

I’m sure they’d drop the verification altogether if we went to 5-6 hours of sick leave accrual a month like our peers have.

In the meantime, I think clawing our way toward a higher verification threshold, and trying to undo the concessions of the past related to the rolling sick leave look back and reinstating voluntary verification would be a better outcome.

The "free" service fromDelta used to just do basic wills and POA's.

To do trusts and anything more exotic, you can sign up during open season in a couple of months for the legal plan which is like $20 per pay period and then you get access to full legal stuff like contracts, trusts, and even defense should you find yourself or a family member in need of an attorney.

I used this service a few years ago to set up special needs trust and apply for guardianship of a relative, and although not the quickest of service, it all was done in good order.

A GFB call is a great deal, it immediately allows you to take any doubt away on your 100% ability for a full return to health and it allows you to extend sick leave for another trip if needed to ensure you are at full health. And it doesn’t count toward the look back.

I'm a little confused by this part. If you don't get a GFB call, are you somehow disallowed from extending your sick leave for another trip to ensure you are at full health?
