from where do you get the information that unused reserves is a priority issue for the company?

Reserve GS & PB debate ex:
Beggining of June I used 3 banked PB days to destroy a stretch of Res. These days were barely blue, and only for the first PCS run on May 20th. They quickly went into the negative after that. When those days finally arrived, they had zero reseves avail and multiple greenslips went out. Had I not banked (and used) PB days from a prior GS, I would have worked one of those trips as a reserve (and prevented at least 1 or 2 GS going out). I actually then did pickup a 5-day GS over that footprint, which generated 6 PB days, eliminating a 4 day stretch and reducing a 3 day stretch to a partial 1 day. My absence from new PB days once again led to more GS calls, I took another 4 day GS over PB days I would have worked. Another +5 PB then nuked the other reserve days.
Thats 11 PB days generated thanks to using my 3 banked. No reserve sat, 9 days of GS duty. Looked at reserve bucket at end of June.. all my fellow reserve rats with 60-80hrs credit and RAW groups 3 & 4. That'd of been me. Instead I enjoyed my big blocks of time off to impromptu go camping and PVR week long vacation with kids. I'd never have been able to with my max 4 days off stretch pre-month. Thanks for the 140hrs too. Was even able to picket thanks to PB day.
Just because somebody could use a banked PB, doesn't mean they wouldn't have flown otherwise. Sometimes its only blue for a short while, and when the day arrives its turns close to 0.

I never said it was a priority issue but if you read what the union is putting out clearly they want higher reserve utilization. Most likely on the international side as I think their domestic utilization is not a issue.

I've had very good results with Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays off this year. It's all about low black days on the res table. But yes, weekends tend to have the lowest numbers. In the summer, with all the 5 days the likelihood of a trip hitting one of those days is very high. Breaking trips costs the company more because the precious credit is added, thereby destroying the pre-bid optimization the company has built into the trips in the bid package. If they can, they will keep the trip in tact. The company has no clue how detrimental this ridiculous trip mix and optimization is to the system. This is why I won't bid a regular line now. Then, you add a reroute or a duty period that runs late and the trip you thought you had disappears. The company can't even answer a phone in a timely manner, there is no ability to plan or react so the GSs are handed out like candy on Halloween and that solves their problem. Fine by me.

This is what I would like to see in the new contract
For line holders I would like everything over 75 hours paid at time and a half that way I don’t have to sit by my phone and wait. Still keep the green slip system for anyone who wants 200 percent but also add payback days for line holders that go into a bank for future use: For reserves Keep the current green slip system but allow reserves to yellow slip trips in advance on their days to help control qol

5 X day groups 3 days on min. I can hold weekends but usually tack on Thursday & Friday or Monday. I have had GSs start on all of those days. M-W off used to be get me a call too. For some reason they had to cover a lot of Monday morning trips that started early before the reserves starting their on call at noon. I have also rolled X days 72 hours out to set me up for the Thursday and Friday trips that need to be cover last minute.
