I love this career. Very happy to have made it. That said, I still enjoy my days off more than the days I work. I've mostly passed up on capitalizing on this GS bonanza, as I'd rather not work. So, when I'm older and grayer, unless something unforseen happens where I'm amongst the half of Americans with inadequate retirement savings, I'm out, baby! Preferably, before 60 even. 4+ decades of work is enough for me.
Semi-retire with a 6 day/month schedule. Run a real estate development company. Talk real estate with pilots, talk flying with real estate professionals. Fully retire from aviation at 65 and deam of owning a Celera 500L or Cirrus SF50. Settle for the reality of S3B and renting a C172.
No such thing as working hard as long as you enjoy what you’re doing. Jerry Jones is still working. Warren Buffet still working in his 90s. Richard Anderson left Delta with millions in his 60s, kept working. Plenty of Delta pilots retire with a boatload of cash and keep on flying. Gotta do something that makes you jump out of bed in the morning.

My retirement goal is to be the old as dirt guy hanging out at the motocross track doing 3-4 laps then going back to the truck to BS with my friends for an hour then helping the younger guys get their bikes dialed in.
I'm already the middle aged guy doing similar.

That's your opinion. I'm not working any harder than I want, and your can have that little airplane jazz. To use the same argument, why would anyone want to spend their own money to do something you can get paid to do?

Don’t forget the rising groundswell from Congress as Sen X and Congressman Y react as their mid-size communities lose jet service. Telling grandma to take the bus to Atlanta or Chicago to see her specialist is not gonna fly. So to speak.
I tend to agree, but who knows by 2025 onwards. Is the ~160 size the smallest we will fly? If regionals continue to shrink will we reconsider smaller jets? I think we’d like the 220-500. Perfect replacement for the 319/320. Would seat around 150.
I fully understand the upgauging mindset, but there does need to be a balance with frequency. For the right price, the E2-190 could offset regional flying, and the extra 20-30 seats would help make up the cost. I don’t buy cost as much these days anyways. If regionals are paying their captains 150-200+ an hour, surely we can do something reasonable to fly a larger “RJ” here? You also eliminate the cost overhead of paying a contract carrier.
Again, just ideas here, more just Sunday morning musings over my pancakes.

I know this is age old advice and heard it a million times. Until recently it was just noise until life smacks you right in the mouth. Enjoy spending TIME with your loved ones and friends now. Don't put off anything for later...later is not guaranteed.
