Pretty sure he was in CR up until this year. Do a quick search in DeltaNet and see what you come up with.

I remember that quote coming from Dewey Jenkins. When he wasn’t talking about his cat.

Hey y’all! I need some advice. I have a huge family event second half of August that I can’t miss (or I will die). I need some advice from folks who have seen trends and can predict the future.

1) Do you guys think I should hold out and bid on the July/August AE to be safe?

2) If so, do you think WB spots will still be open?

My fear is not bidding now and missing out then the senior folks bid on the next AE to avoid summer training. Not sure how this usually trends but I’d imagine Fall is a great time for training.

Thanks! I’ve reached out to AE planners via email but have had no luck with responses.

If you NEED to be off don’t bid. Simple and sad.

If it’s life or death as you say it is, the only safe play is don’t bid on this AE. They may work with you on a conflict, or they may not.

To answer your questions, given the importance of this event:

1) Yes

2) Depends on your seniority, but yes

As I age, the aphorism “When I was young, I prayed for justice. When I was old, I prayed for mercy” resonates strongly.

Absolutes are for teenagers, fools, and mid-wits.

If you’re on Delta’s property for 20 years under the current contract, there’s no reason you can’t retire comfortably…..unless you F it up. Who cares if some old farts work two more years?

Personally, I pity them, if they preserve because they must.

(Addressing the specific complaint “My captain will drop dead”. Who cares? You’re qualified and type rated in that scenario. There’s an excellent chance there are multiple qualified pilots in the back of the plane if you can’t handle that scenario on your lonesome.)

(Raises hand) I care. The only reason those old farts have their seats is because their elders played by the rules. Now that it benefits them (and only now) they want those rules changed.

Yes yes I know that we only have power over our own mind not outside events, but I was always more of an Epicurean than a Stoic Marcus still rocks but he can be a bit lecture-ey at times…..

You lost me at Epicurean. Please remember you’re speaking to pilots.
