All signs point to Delta paying us appropriately soon. If that does happen, I hope strict adherence to hat and double breasted jacket returns. Call me old skool, but I like the iconic Delta uniform and strongly believe it's a big part of the Brand.

Uh, that’s a ridiculous argument - yes I can complain:

1) Delta was the most advantageous company to work for given my situation, but that doesn’t mean I like/ agree with everything at this place. I strongly believe the uniform is ridiculous and ill suited for our work environment, and I will complain about it. There, we both have strong beliefs. Take that.

2) I’m a pilot, therefor I complain.

You just never miss an opportunity to sound like a company man. Here’s my eye roll🙄.

Wow, nearly every trip for me. My pants and jacket are tailored. I was surprised this year even without the hat the compliments still one. Pax, TSA agents, even the FAs this past trip chimed in.

You can get an amen. I have no desire to look like every other airline pilot.

When those same passengers go to Expedia to book their next itinerary and see another airline offering a lower fare or more direct routing, how many of them are going to say “I’ll pay more for Delta and give myself a connection in ATL because I liked Trip7’s uniform!”

Our C-suite and VP of Marketing aren’t losing any sleep over us not wearing hats. Flight Ops leadership (particularly PB) are the only ones showing frustration over it, because “that’s the way we’ve always done it here”. It truly doesn’t matter to our bottom line.

It’s simply another example of Delta being behind the times. With new Flight Ops leadership, we’ll eventually catch up with the rest of the industry and adopt an optional hat policy. The great thing about “optional” is that you can still strut around the concourse with your hat on and seek compliments if you’d like.

The fact is we are every other legacy airline pilot. We’re compensated roughly the same, treated roughly the same, and our operation (particularly post-Covid) runs roughly the same.

Probably because they've never seen a Black captain before more than because of your "Well Tailored" Early 1900s Ship Captain Uniform.

loyal fliers drive a lot more of our revenue than Expedia. And for that, even an unconsciously valuable brand is pretty important.

Agreed, but if someone is a loyal Delta customer they are more likely to notice that our uniform branding is highly inconsistent. Delta Connection pilots do not wear hats, many of our codeshare partners do not wear hats, and our flight attendants (the most visible Delta employees) have the least cohesive uniform program in the industry.

More important to our loyal customers are direct flights to and from where they want to go, along with on-time performance.

I believe all the small things add up. Including strengthening of the brand via image. Reducing total regional lift has helped with your first complaint.

either way, I look good in the current uniform and hope it doesn’t change a bit

Don't you worry. You'll still get your compliments with a more modernized look.
