Default Payload Optimization LAX -> SYD

Looking at nonrevving to SYD. Is every flight payload optimized going out? If there are 100+ open seats should I be worried about not making it there (or back) or only if it’s tight (say 20 seats or less?)

I am not on the Panda so I can't speak specifically to your question, but I would track the Non-rev list daily to get a feel for what is going on. Of course winds and cargo change but it should help.

We tried to get down there a few weeks ago. It really is dependent on the cargo load. They would only clear a few non-revs per flight. Seems to me that the lucky ones stemmed from misconnects. Of course that opens a seat but more importantly it’s weight that had already been accounted for.

I actually monitored the flights with mission plus, which is how I learned to use it. They would consistently move about 5500 to 6000 lbs of cargo. Might be that if they don’t move a lot of cargo the days prior to your trip, it’ll be positive weight for your math.

Next time we be using the positive space passes

Can you get around the Payload Optimization problem by listing as a jumpseater? Or do they limit the number of jumpseaters as well in this situation?

Normally, yes, but if there are no spare pilot jumpseats (this is a 4-pilot crew) then you’re out of luck. Try booking it — see if it lets you.
