On retrospect it was not that good a deal. Those that stayed made a lot more money and for a good part of that time also did not work or worked very little.

The argument I'm making is it's entirely possible we don't make it to 50, let alone 67

Plenty of young, junior Delta first officers making plenty more than captains right now while also banking many days off. On trivially easy rotations carved up into nothing just to entice them to go to work. Looks like plenty more of this going on in 2023.
That extra money earned in your 20s and 30s is going to be far more valuable (if properly invested, not spent) than any “windfall” oldsters make from two years at the tail end.
It’s an insane opportunity, just luck of the draw, not inter generational malice.

It’s delayed a bit but the effect just as with age 65 is not nearly what most post. I suspect less than 25% of Delta pilots hired would actually make it to 67. It’s also worth noting that before the increase to 65 and before the potential change to 67 there were early retirement programs that resulted in 1800 pilots give or take leaving early each time. I don’t support 67 as now being 65 I recognize the issues aging brings. I see it in myself and a lot of the older copilots I have flown with. There needs to be a number for the sake of safety and I think 65 is the sweet spot. Passing our canned sim checks is not a indication of how someone might function when the chips are down.
65 is the sweet spot for many reasons.

If the wanted they could go to the regionals, collect a hefty signing bonus, be an LCP there and make $300-400/hour on top of their 58 hrs a month from delta.
I do see your point, but there were opportunities to make $$$ by those that stayed as well as those that left.

I see you in the lounge hawking the open time after getting a weather alert on your flip phone.
I regret not taking the VEOP

conversely those that took the VEOP were able to get a job flying for another airline a year later if they wished (if they were able to age/medical wise).

They are enjoying early retirement, their grandkids and finally having time of their own without hassle

I make way more than 99% of the FOs I fly with and still work probably half as much.
No substitute for seniority
