Which is the Easier Commute (CVG)?
#11
Thanks for the insight! I looked on StaffTraveler and noticed there are only 4 flights a day to DTW, with 7 to ATL (one being F9). Whereas there are 8 flights during the week to LGA and 4 to JFK split half and half between Delta and American. Any insight on which would be better as far as Ubers, hotels and crashpads go?
Often you are the only person onboard besides the crew. It's like you chartered your own jet to go to work.
DTW has DHL flight 192/592. Currently operated by Kalitta Charters II. 737 with 1 cockpit jumpseat and 4 supernumerary seats.
JFK has DHL 152/552 and 480/880. 767-300 with 4 jumpseats. ABX Air operates those currently. B6, AA, and DL folks often end their pairings @JFK late and sleep in their own beds in Cincinnati because of those flights.
ATL has various DHL and Amazon flights. Usually 767-300 with 4 jumpseats.
I agree with previous posts, having a 4-5 hour drive (DTW) is nice to have in your back pocket. Bid longer stretches of days on so you only have to do the roundtrip drive 2 or 3 times a month.
All of this info can supplement what you already know about the scheduled pax flights.
You might have to pay for a few Ubers. Pay attention to what day of the week (and which direction) the flights are operated. Your mileage may vary. All rebate checks please allow 6-8 weeks for delivery. Due your own due DYODD. Use the ATM machine machine.

I flew with a Champion (7ER Captain) who had a tee time at his country club in CVG area late morning, and after our red eye from (I can’t remember west coast) to DTW, he was going to get in his car and drive straight to his club in CVG area and play 18 holes. That’s dedication to the game. God bless him.

But yes, cargo should not be forgotten. Some days they run 2 cargo between CVG and ATL and is so much easier than having to worry about getting to the terminal.

We cannot jumpseat on Kalitta II, only the other Kalitta carriers. We don’t hold a reciprocal JS agreement with them. It’s unfortunate as they sporadically operate CVG-DTW and back and would of saved me a few hotels.

CVG is a DHL and Amazon hub. Don't discount the convenience of going to work on a freighter. You don't have to compete with Captain CPAP for the only jumpseat.

Can you point me to this information a little more specifically? I dug around on the ALPA site and couldn't find it.
