Default Best route to get to Halifax Canada

Just taking a shot in the dark to see if anybody has a good route to Halifax (YHZ) from SLC. I've looked at going through Toronto then WestJet to YHZ but the Toronto flight direct from slc doesn't operate the day I need to leave.

I've looked at Calgary, Boston and JFK. Calgary works but only one flight option that day and I'd like more options if it all goes pear shaped.

Anybody got tips for other carriers to look it. Halifax it seems is a hard place to get to.

Cheers

I believe you can take a ferry from Bar Harbor ME to Yarmouth NS.

I am from there and my parents still live there so I’ve been going back and forth the last ten years. It’s always changing. Very few direct to US flights and they’re seasonal and inconsistent. Right now AA flies mainline from Philadelphia, seasonally. Air Canada regional flies seasonally from Newark and there are a handful of flights from Boston per day. If you can get to Toronto there are hourly flights so shouldn’t be too difficult to zed fare. The difficulty is you’re not going to be able to ride the JS unless you go mainline from ATL to YYZ (there might be other mainline to Delta YYZ, I’m not sure)

If the commute wasn’t so godawful getting to the US from Halifax (not being able to ride the cockpit jumpseat) I’d probably move back there.

Edit: just curious why do you want to go there? I’ve only met one prior east coast Canadian born delta pilot and it was like 10 years.

Salt Lake to Detroit or Atlanta. From there to Portland, ME. Greyhound from Portland to Bangor. Uber to Bar Harbor. Catch the ferry to Canada.

Might be more adventurous than desired.

Air Canada flies direct SLC-YYZ on Wednesdays (if that happens to be the day of the week you're looking at).

Delta flies one mainline to YVR that arrives around 11:15pm, then Air Canada (787) leaves at 8am. (There are also two redeyes on Air Canada and West Jet).

The only other option I found that hasn't been discussed is the Korean Air Cargo (777) from ORD to YHZ, however, I don't know if we can JS on them.

My buddy has been sailing his boat around Newfoundland and is currently in Halifax. I'm sailing it with him from Halifax back to Boston with him.

Extenda,

Lots of good info there. I can get to YYZ through MSP (Tuesday travel not Wednesday) by 1820 but there is only one WestJet flights to Halifax and that day and it leaves at 1530.

What other carriers do I need to look at out of YYZ?

I've done SLC-YYC-YHZ and back with no issues. Calgary-Halifax is a long leg so usually a MAX.
