The FAA does not govern flying in the military and part 91 flying has always had less regulation.
the FAA would not allow southwest to qualify pilots to fly the 737-300 and 737 max 8 at the same time, and that’s the same type rating.
the 727 and A320 are about as far apart as any 2 western jet airliners. Glass vs steam gauges, 3 cockpit crew vs 2, wildly different levels of automation, the list goes on. So yes it’s a crazy concept to me the FAA would be ok with 1 person being qualified to be a captain on both at the same time. not to mention also being qualified as an FO on a third aircraft that is completely different than the two mentioned above.

it helps the more different the planes are. I imagine it would be confusing to fly a kc-46 and be 765.

I can understand it being doable with the right amount of effort. I’m just shocked the FAA allowed it, especially that recently.

Doing several types here would be fatiguing for sure compared to normal.

I definitely would not want to try and stay proficient on 3 or more types though.

probably the only 2 aircraft we fly the FAA would even consider a dual qual on.*
* I’m excluding the ER and -400 because the FAA already allows it, i think we just don’t want to deal with the training headache and CBA ramifications of combining the two types.

That sounds like the 7ER category. I miss the variety of Europe, SA and domestic. It's a shame the 320/330 aren't a common type like the 757/767.

You're not flying at 100agl and 580 knots, at night, blacked out on night vision doing TFR in about 0/0 weather in mountainous terrain in 121 either now are you? So my brother told me they did when he was flying F-111 and F-15E. We do vanilla **** compared to them.

In prior decades and the prior century mil safety when they flew 111s is a different discussion.
