I own the DC Pro X2 and it hurts my ears on long flights. Switching to Proflight after hearing everyone rave about it

For what its worth, I bought the Bose ProFlight 2 and ordered custom ear molds from Avery Sound. Absolutely life changing. Gets rid of any of the pressure points the generic bose shapes may create on your particular ear.

I tried the Bose pro-flight 2 for one leg and that was enough. I guess it felt comfortable enough and all, but it felt fragile with the dangly ear bits and all. Didn't collapse nice into the large case it rides in. Just too much going on. I went back to a new Telex airmen-8, more my speed. I'm also not on the 737 so there's that.

I just went through this in the last month too. Coming from an old Telex 850 to the Airbus, the plug converter wasn’t doing the job.

I bought the pro flight 2 (based on the raving reviews you’re seeing here) and did NOT like it. I think it’s a personal preference thing but I’m with DryClutch, too many dangling pieces and also more of a PITA to put on/off - ie 3 movements instead of one. 1) headband on 2) outboard ear plug 3) inboard earplug once we’re on IC. Reverse step 3 anytime we need to talk to an FA, or whatever (don’t like the tap to hear through functionality)

Bought an A30 and immediately liked it way better. Good noise canceling on both.

I’m trying to envision the tangled mess the PF2’s would be in an O2 mask event as well. Almost to the point that I don’t think it would work (for me) in the chaos. A30’s are a traditional headset, so off, mask on, back on, and done.

If you order direct from Bose it’s a 90 day no questions return policy, so why not try them both and see which you like. I’ve flown the 737 before and could see either being fine from a noise canceling angle.

I don’t think they’re selling A20’s anymore. A30 FTW.

Telex isn’t quiet enough for the “we just stopped trying” jet. I thought I was going deaf using the Telex 8. The controllers sounded like they were mumbling at the end of the day. Worked fine on the E175 and Bus but no go for the 73.

Pro Flight 2 is very unique, it takes more than one leg to figure out a flow regarding the setup and breakdown. Once you do, it’s like any other headset.

Switched from A20 to A30. I don't like anything in my ear so plug type weren't considered. A20 works great but usually take them off for a bit around 3.5 hours. A30 I can wear all day but preflight check looking at the overhead panel I have to hold them on my head. They both double as great GA headsets too.

Had a Proflight 2 and switched to Clarity Aloft. A little cheaper than Bose. If you don’t mind sticking things in your ear, the passive noise cancelling of the in ear earbuds was better than the ANR in my opinion. Extremely light and not bulky, sometimes I don’t feel like I have a headset on at all.

I’ve used the DC ProX ANR on the 73 and 717. Works equally well with an ear on or off. ANR is fine even on the older -800’s. Allegedly (Of course I’ve never tried it 🤷🏻‍♂️), you can use the Bluetooth to listen to tunes or company provided e-brief/WATRS videos on those longer flights. Had the Clarity Aloft years ago. After about a year or so my ear canals became very sensitive to having plugs stuffed in there for hours at a time.

FWIW, I'll throw in what I adopted in the past year, after being a Telex 850 w/ earplugs and DC shipset user forever. Oddly, it took a shift from Boeing to Bus to go ANR. I didn't want to buy one style of plug and then adapt for a new fleet, so I waited. The cheapskate in me just could not fathom a $1000+ investment in something I was uncertain about; expensive experiment. I know there are some returnable options, but I decided to look at terrestrial ANR headset adaptation. I already owned a Bose QC 25 and knew it had great comfort and sound. U Fly Mike was the obvious popular option, but I waited and waited for them to release the TSO version of their latest product. That wasn't happening, and maybe never did (too lazy to look now, because I don't care). Along the way, I came to understand that the TSO factor is not such a big deal. While that certification is technically "required," it seems that within the sphere I operate, nobody cares. Correct me if that sounds fishy, but I believe that's the consensus from similar topic threads here on APC and elsewhere. It's also verified by numerous LCPs and one executive-level Flt. Ops. individual who probably would not want to be quoted on that point. BTW, if the battery dies, you just loose ANR - slight turn of the volume knob, and you're good. That's just my personal justification for throwing TSO to the wind, YMMV. Then I came across the Avee Aviation Microphone kit for the Bose QC 35, a Norwegian company. Available in dual plug and XLR versions. Just under $300 and substantially similar to U Fly Mic, whose warranty reputation wasn't sounding so great at the time.

I received a QC 35 as a present, so I was covered there. Paired with the Avee, it's a very comfortable, even with the longest in-seat times at DAL (I fly the NEO transcon and Hawaiian routes - nearly double the duration of cheeks-to-seat shift as our WB fleets). Admittedly, most often we go topless in overwater cruise, but if I perceive an F/O wants to stick with their Pro Flight or whatever, I'll stay on the clamp and it's not a problem and continental ops with VFH comms make headset use desirable .... cannot imagine a comfier device. As expected, it's super-quiet and has a very clean sound. About five months in, I had a warranty issue; a loud crackling fed into the ACP. Via email, it was nicely resolved. Avee sent me an entire new kit on faith that I would rotate parts individually to ascertain the faulty component. It turned out to be just the cord, but they let me keep the entire new system. Kudos to Avee for responsiveness and great customer service.

Noting that a like-new QC 35 is available for about $60 on FB market, eBay and so on, concerns about fault, failure or loss are minimal. For about 1/3 the cost of premium aviation headsets that are popular and I'm sure very good, I have a set-up that is fantastic and works for me. Great for commute movies and tunes.
