When we first started flying JNB we didn't have armed escort, and we could walk from the Hilton to Bull Run and all the way to the mall without any problems, but that was a long time ago. Last time I was there (24 mo ago) we had armed guards with us on the bus and in a car behind us. We took the hotel van to the mall, both ways.

Do we get Glocks when we get to JNB? I heard the interns get one (even if they have to share it).

Yeah but on the layover they stay in their rooms "polishing their weapon"! Or waxing their carrots!

The national sport in Nigeria is kidnapping foreigners!

"Kidnapping for ransom on a commercial scale became rampant in Nigeria in 2011 spread across all the 36 states and the country's capital, Abuja.[13][14]"

This is quite literally my least worry in America. And I'm dark. Amazing what happens when you behave like a civilized human being. Stop being a drama queen or move to Canada.

Pull over when asked or lights are on in the first safe spot to stop. If at night put your dome lights on. Roll down the drivers window. Place your hands at 10 and 2 on the wheel and stay that way until the cop asks you to do something. You won't get shot.

in other countries, you don’t get shot even if you don’t put your dome light on

No one gets shot in the US for not putting their dome light on. They get shot for pulling a deadly weapon on the cops. It's always a case of resisting arrest escalating to violence.
