If there is a pen in the ship’s pen holder, I use it. If there is not, I put one of my finest hotel pens into the ship’s pen holder and then I use it until I leave it for the next pilot’s enjoyment. I see no reason to remove a usable pen to replace with my own unless it’s visibly covered in goobers.

During IQ, line checks and other training events, it is regularly impressed on us crews that we need to make sure the PIC isn't trying to do the WDR song and dance during push back and/or engine start.
"The captain needs to be paying attention to the push, you need to be paying attention to starting the engines!"
Here's a question, are pilots on the non-song-and-dance WDR fleets having the same amount of "captain not watching push back" issues?
Not only do we have an ostensibly unnoficial techcedure embedded in our fleet culture, but it seems to be to the detriment of PIC attentiveness during push back,
at least to the extent that training and standards is constantly reminding crews to NOT do it during push.
If we're always having to warn crews on the perils of improperly performing an unnofficial procedure, maybe we need to evaluate eliminating said unnoficial procedure.
