You mean the one about how, “we will split the walk around 50/50. I got the first half of my career you get the second half.”
Cue comments from angry, senior captains who are jealous of people upgrading earlier in their career than they themselves did, saying, “That joke doesn’t work anymore!!!!”

I thought it was going to be, tell me your ATL based without telling me your ATL based.

6 years sitting sideways on the 727. Nobody did a walk around for me. 11 years right seat on the 88. Same. I will do the WA on the FO's leg IF I want to, which is most of the time.
But when it's 30°F, freezing rain and sleet and blowing 30 knots that's a no.
Rank does have its privileges.

While we're on the topic of preflights and duties and maintenance, I've had a few instances of returning to the plane and finding maintenance techs in the cockpit. When I ask what's up I learn that the first officer has called maintenance and told them of a perceived discrepancy without my knowledge or consent.

if there was a tire with a cut, and you were getting food, or late on a reroute, would you really want them to wait for you to call Mx?
if it ends up being a waste of a few AMT’s time, so be it. It’s a good leaning experience. Now, if it’s contract maintenance, and MCC has to call in someone, maybe that should go through the Captain unless they are MIA.

Cool with me. I'm not a mechanic so if he has a problem, I'm likely just going to tell him to call mx anyway. If I'm not there or he's outside and sees a mechanic, get the ball rolling on a fix ASAP.

Wait until you look out the left window and see your boarding airplane foot traffic the wrong way because your flight attendant called a red coat and decided to deplane the aircraft without mentioning it to the pilots.
