UAL has traditionally been the hare, DAL more of the tortise when it comes to expansion (and contraction). YMMV

Why would the OP be commuting across the country for years? There were 30 or so unfilled FO positions in LAX on the ER. 320/737 are also easily accessible on the first or second AE after being hired.

People has a hard on UAL WB. I rather be here, but that’s me. Kirby = AA = USAirways = AmericaWest = promises and under delivering. He should’ve bought Airbuses for his big expansion.
FYI OP, delta has over 300 airplane deliveries the next 5-10 yrs. It’s just that we don’t make “big announcements”. BTW, delta is #1 in LAX.

Thats just people making S up. LAX is Junior, not NY junior, but easy attainable.

OK - Good info but here is the correct forum answer:
From DAL Pilots in the Delta forum - go to UAL!
From UAL Pilots in the UAL forum - go to DAL!
Only kidding………sot of.
Seriously, great problem to have both solid options.

Delta is better however Delta has hired 5000 in last 2 years and 12,000 in last 10 years. The hiring wave is over. United’s is still going on. It’s going to take 18-20 years to reach 50 percent at Delta for someone hired today.

Look there's always a jaded contingent that are going to say go to the other airline, but specifically the OP mentioned a high priority of west coast widebody flying. Given that objective, how long would it take for them to attain that goal at UA vs DL? Would they ever be able to upgrade into that west coast widebody flying here? Those are valid reasons to pick United based on current and projected fleets.

That sounds fun for two months. After 8 months it would be terrible. But I wouldn’t make my decision on an airline based solely on getting a WB seat. Overall seniority progression would be the most important factor. Delta being hell bent on outsourcing as much flying as they can would factor into my decision. So would the constant over promising and under delivering of growth at United for the last 20 years.
