I’ve talked to my reps about this, and I don’t think they want to touch it, because it sets a bad precedent for the company to come back and say “well we adjusted numbers before to help y’all out, now we need to do it to help us”.

Interesting. That seems a bit weak considering it appears we've helped them out quite a bit with their PB Day issue. We also allowed them to pretty much implement anything that helps them right away, while we wait months/years for the stuff that helps us. Are they worried that we'll enter yet another global pandemic unlike anything we've seen in modern day? You can bet they're going to come asking (eventually taking) if we hit some other massive black swan. This just seems like a logical move considering the extremely unique nature of the world shutting down. I guess we just deal with it why they average less than 250 hours of block/year lol.

There are actually two numbers for reserves. One is for the staffing formula, which says how many line holders and reserve pilots we need. The reserve part is driven by utilization and how many green slips go out.

The daily reserves required (aka the grid) is calculated a different way, in a different section with different numbers, and is dynamic and can change with changes in open time.

The two parts don’t seem connected in any way.

The part they say that’s driving this is the staffing formula, which is causing the numbers per day to currently be as high as they are. And that’s what they don’t want to mess with.

Explain this. Besides getting other things that the pilot group wanted that everyone seems to think will reduce PB days without any proof. I’m honestly curious.

There’s nothing in the staffing formula that I can find that has anything to do with the number of reserves required each day.

I could see where it affects the number of reserves available.

ask them then, maybe you’ll get a more detailed answer than I did.

The staffing formula has zero connection to the formula for the reserves required grid. They are two independent things.

If pilots are actually acknowledging those trips >30 hours prior, it's a pilot problem, not a scheduling problem. Just wait to acknowledge inside 30 hours prior to report when coming off an X day.
excellent technique

Absolutely. There are a LOT of pilots here who aren’t aware of how much of a gift second-day coverage was to the company - at the pilot group’s expense. It was among the top reasons why I voted no.

It affects NB categories as well, to a lesser yet still significant extent.
