Getting to the higher paying seat is a technique but not the best IMHO. If dollars are the goal and they are willing to sacrifice weekend etc. then being paid double, triple, rolling thunder or cashing in PBs is a much better way to earn that.

Agree with you there. When I displaced from the bottom 330B, to super senior 717B, my pay pretty much stayed the same, with quite a few months being higher and more time off. I got the vacation I wanted, all the days off I wanted and bid by trip number with only a few bid lines. Being able to say, I can make that event in 6 months was also nice. There is a reason that most of the top page of the right seat of my category are all senior to me. Most of them make quite a bit more than I do. I could be the top page of 320B and I bet I could easily make more money in that seat than I could as a 717A. The hope is to never be junior again, preferably> 30%. However, if you have no flexibility and want to just fly your PBS assigned schedule and go home, then the highest paying seat works great.

That becomes go big, go far, go home (WBA). Seniority reflects that fact. If flexible and wanting to move things around, 717. If wanting to just fly and be done, 320/737/7er. When you get bored and senior for a change, look into a WB.
No one is getting a 1 leg out/1 leg back for 10:30 on the 717 in ATL unless they’ve been here 2+ decades. An IROP is your only hope for something like that but nobody is going to make a major decision based on a few hub smashing thunderstorms.
