Just to make sure we are all on the same page here - it used to be required for a DAL Pilot to have a jumpseat reservation to be protected from a payload optimized flight. In other words DAL would even bump our own Pilots who tried to walk up for a JS. Has this policy changed?

No, but you can make that reservation as late as 45 minutes (I think?) prior even as a walk up (like if MiCrew has crapped out on your phone). Regardless, you have to check in with the agent 15 prior. Show at 14 minutes, and you lose your seat/protection.

You can reserve the JS up to 15min prior.
Glad to be corrected with the correct time, or if something has changed in that. (I've been burned by it, which is the only reason I know, but that was at least 6 years ago.) |

That's absolutly true, but when a flight is "payload optimized", you are only 'protected'/included in the basic weight if you have it reserved 'early' (i think it's either 40 or 45 mintues prior to departure). Said another way, unless it's changed, you aren't protected on the JS on a payload optimized flight if you reserve the JS 16 mintues prior, for example. Basically, once boarding starts on a PO flight, they cutoff that protecion.

Curious if some of you all are seeing this on JS reserviations on MiCrew.
I go to MiCrew, search for flights and available jump seats. MiCrew showing JS available for the flight I want. I reserve it. It confirms and shows up under the "Booked" tab. Show up to gate 1hr prior to check in and the agent says someone else is listed for the JS. Check in with CA, they open up MiCrew and my name is there as the JS'er. However, the gate agent will not board me as I am not the listed JS'er on their computer. So wait to see if the other JS'er shows, they never do (becasue I am on listed on the JS). Get the JS. These are not FAA people, the gate agent can see that. One time the other person actually showed up. They showed the JS on MiCrew booked tab and I showed the same (only one JS on this type of aircraft). Gate agent checked the computer and I was listed on the JS. That other pilot was a NH. That time I was able to get on another flight later thanks to the gate agent and I let the NH take the JS so they could get to work (I was going up a day early, their report was that same day).. Have any of you seen this before? It's really strange. Seems like something is goofy between the MiCrew and the gate agents system. Except for the one occasion I listed above, the "other" JS'er never materialized. I book my JS (if required) well in advance, so this is not a last minute type of event. |

You need to send this to union jumpseat committee with flight and date numbers. Not good.
I'll reach out to the JS committee. I have all the screen shots and stuff so it should be easy for them to look into it. Thank you. |

That was my plan, especially since it wasn't the first time I've had this happen. Was just curious if others have experienced this before or whether I was just a one off. I've been booking jumpseats on us for a long time and have never encountered this until most recently.
