At no time when face to face with customers are we getting “paid,” except maybe on a DH.
I’m with Jax and ancman on this. I’ll be friendly when approached, but I’m not going out of my way for a company that gives me **** meals and can’t pay me correctly or transparently.
I’m not going to take it out on the customer. I’m just not going out of my way to pump up managers’ NPS bonuses. Much like they don’t go out of their way to do the right thing for pilots.

When the company stops showing contempt for the contract they agreed to or stop trying to claw back things they agreed to, I'll do a little more to in the realm of customer engagement. Until then, I have a real meal to go run down in the terminal, or a Cleveland football team to drop off or literally anything else more pressing than standing at the door and smiling.

100% to the above.
And I’m certainly not going to listen to koolaid chugging, out of touch boomers who refer to FOs as copilots and then lie and say that’s how they refer to all pilots (which, even if true [and it’s not], is still completely ridiculous and stupid).

Lol I've literally said like twice don't go out of your way to do anything, you already are doing it whether you like it or not so continue twisting my words. Everyone crying "boohoo I'm not getting paid to go out of my way to interact with people, I'm not a marketing person I'm a pilot, but I'm not gonna go out of my way to be a dick to people" bruh, THATS MY POINT. You think you're not doing it, but you already are. You always have been. Every set of plastic wings, every airplane card, every kid taking a pic in the flight deck. You've been doing it since day 1. I never told you to go do anything else, I'm telling you you're already doing it and sound like a clown in denial.
And the boomer comments are priceless, I bet I'm younger than 90% of you.

Still hard disagree with DeltaboundRedux that anyone who doesn’t get approached “often” is slovenly or a space cadet; that’s just patently not true.
And that entertaining pax is part of our job. If I wanted to be a Character Experience I would have gotten a job at Disney World. Passengers are not guests, I’m not an entertainer; I’ll continue to interact with them as human beings.

What I don’t do is wait around, unpaid, saying goodbye to every single passenger during deplaning. Or make cabin PAs. Or hand out captain cards to FC passengers. Or actively approach passengers in general.
To echo what others have said, management has much more directly vested in NPS than we do. It’s why they love feeding us the “Doing XYZ increases our revenue premium, which in turn goes into your profit sharing” nonsense. When they show complete contempt for us over such issues as contract compliance and pay, I have no desire to help pad their bonuses.

Oh yeah, it was DeltaboundRedux who called himself an old fart; I retract my boomer comments about you. My disdain for your ridiculous lie that you call everyone your “fellow copilot” stands, however.

You continue to misinterpret what I'm saying to the point I think you're trolling so congrats my esteemed copilot, you won. If I ever catch you handing out trading cards to little kids I'm gonna karate chop you in the throat and write you up for Inadvertent Servicing of a Customer.

This fixation with my use of copilot is beyond ridiculous. I don't go around throwing it like a Soviet saying comrade. Still don't see what's so egregious about it or why you're so hung up on it. English isn't my first language, god forbid I ever catch you misusing a word in another language....

I’m not misinterpreting anything you’re saying, and the only thing I took exception to was your use of the word ‘copilot.’
As you can clearly see in my last post, I was commenting about DeltaboundRedux’s statements, not yours. I have no idea why you’re so fixated on me, but don’t worry, I won’t commit violence just because I disagree with you

I’m pretty sure all of us are saying that we DO act like nice people and welcome visitors to the flight deck when asked, or provide trading cards when asked, or answer customers’ questions when stopped in the terminal. None of those are the “Delta Difference” - they’re just basic courtesies that nearly all pilots provide everywhere.
What I don’t do is wait around, unpaid, saying goodbye to every single passenger during deplaning. Or make cabin PAs. Or hand out captain cards to FC passengers. Or actively approach passengers in general.
