Default Crew Layover Guide

I used to use MyCrewGuide a lot and have been griping for years wishing somebody would build a new version of it. It's easy enough to find SOMEWHERE to go, but it was nice to have the inside gouge particularly on a new layover or somewhere you hadn't been in awhile.

I've been slowly putting together a list of my layover spots but that's just a small subset of the overall system and it seems silly to put up a mostly empty site.

If this is something you'd like to see use the Google form below to add your top layover recommendations. The more the merrier. If it's crickets then I'll save the effort for something else and we can all just keep using Yelp or Google Maps 🙂

Even more importantly, SHARE the form around so we can collect more layover cities. I'm not on social media so sharing the form in the bigger groups would be helpful:

At Brand X we had FCView, and it had an editable user input section for each hotel/layover. I loved it!! Used and added to it all the time.

Ill add to your document on my next rotation.

Not to be horribly cynical, but:

[horribly cynical take]: I’m at work and just want a meal, a quiet hotel room, a decent gym, and somewhere to eat that’s better than what I packed in my bag and doesn’t cost a fortune.

(Short drives to the hotel a plus. City X ain’t that different from City Y, or Z. Instant “fatigue call” for non functioning air conditioning (BHM) or heat (BOS))

There is a new app out there. Since I mostly do international, I haven't used it much, but it might be worth a try. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/jetr-l...s/id6444051599

I had a no-heat issue in BOS maybe two months ago. MX guy fixed it within 10 minutes of my call…filter on the bottom of HVAC unit under the window was clogged, causing a thermal fault. Easy fix in the future (granted we should not have to do hotel room maintenance, but at 12:30am IDGAS and just want sleep ya know? lol)

Equally cynical take: I have made the mistake of sharing some cool spots with chill people and good food - only to have it overrun by middle-aged dudes in New Balance sneakers. Now I keep my mouth shut.

I used MyCrewGuide as well. I'd suggest that the D-bag tools (NB wearing 'experienced' people) are in the minority (of the group as a whole). Sometimes even knowing that there is a grocery store 'out the door, turn right and go 3 blocks' is great information. And knowing whether the hotel restaurant (if it has one) is good or crap can help plan a layover, especially when the weather sucks.

Even my wife misses it, because she always had my newest schedule handy when planning things.

Cynicism aside, for those looking for long trails to walk/run/rent a bike for on the road exercise, I’ve found “AllTrails” to be invaluable.
